“Dancing With the Stars” host Alfonso Ribeiro recently received heat from fans after calling Shangela by the wrong name. In a video posted to social media, you can hear Ribeiro refer to the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star as “Angela,” not “Shangela.”
Fans were quick to point out the mistake. One fan commented, “They better get Miss Shangie’s name RIGHT!,” while another wrote, “She should call him ‘Alonzo’.”
Now, the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star is speaking out about the mistake in a hilarious TikTok video.

Shangela jumped on the “One Thing About Me” trend, where users tell stories to the beat of “MEAN!” by Madeline The Person. Shangel’s story is about how Alfonso Ribeiro called her by the wrong name, even hashtagging the video #whosangela.
“One thing about me is that last week I was on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and I danced really well,” the video begins. “And then we were like yeah, come on, let’s get this score and when they gave us an 8, I was like ‘oh my God oh my God’.”
“And then I jumped up and I was like ‘let’s go upstairs so we can talk to Alfonso Ribeiro’ because I’ve loved him since he was Carlton and then I was like ‘we’re going to get this baby, let’s get it done’.”
Shangela continued, “So she turned to Gleb and said ‘Gleb, how are you going to turn off Angela’s dial?’ and I was like ‘huh?’” before looking around the room and into the camera confused.
“Who is Angela?” the star continued to sing. “Again, who is Angela?”
Ending the video, the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star says she still loves Ribeiro. “But it’s okay because I still love you Alfonso and everyone make sure you watch and vote on Monday.”

During the second week of the competition, host Alfonso Ribeiro spoke with Shangela following her performance, asking the star what it was like to perform as the first male partner in the long-running competition series. Shangela quickly called Ribero out for using the wrong term, going on to explain what it meant to her to be a part of the show.
“Well, first of all, it’s a boy and a Drag Diva, but yes, it is,” Shangela said with a laugh. “Honestly, you know what? To be anyone who can walk through the door, there is responsibility. Not only to walk through it fiercely but also to push it so that others come behind. And that’s what we hope to do tonight.”
The reality competition show recently moved from its home on ABC to Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, and airs every Monday night at 8pm ET.
