Shanna Moakler has celebrated her first Mother’s Day without her mother, Gail.
The former Miss USA had a somber reception as she shared numerous social media updates paying tribute to her mother, who died aged 77. He had announced his parents’ departure earlier in the year, acknowledging their sweet relationship and praising Gail for being “loving, kind and supportive” while being his best friend.

Over the years, Shanna’s 396k followers have grown accustomed to seeing her dedicate the sweetest tribute to her mother on Mother’s Day. And this year was no different, even as he broke the news of the elder Moakler’s death in January.
The mother-of-three began with an image of herself and a younger Gail smiling for the camera, with the colorful words “Happy Mother’s Day” emblazoned across the top of her Instagram Story update. He then posted a vintage photo showing his mother throwing him into the air next to a makeshift bridge.
The late mother-of-three rolled up her jeans, matching them with a black top with white sleeves and collar. Little Shanna wore sleeveless underwear and beamed in the “Happy Mother’s Day” post with the appropriate caption.
“Wonderful memories for two very beautiful women! She’s now your personal “angel” ?️,” one fan immediately posted in the comments section. A second person typed, “Sending hugs to what I know is a tough first mom without your number one fan,” and a third stated, “Sending lots love and hugs to you today!!! You and you [sic] mom is so beautiful!”
“Be strong Shanna, you deserve to celebrate today. It’s your day too,” wrote a fourth Instagram user. Amid the empathetic response, Shanna took to her Instagram Story to add more updates, this time highlighting her daughter Atiana De La Hoya’s tribute to her grandmother.
In the first repost, the December 2001 Playboy of the Month is seen looking at a younger Atiana, who is pointing at the camera. The photo, which also showed the mother-daughter duo posing in front of a piano, was captioned, “Happy Mother’s Day, beautiful mama.”
She then reposted The Next Story of “The Kardashians” star, which features three generations of grandmothers [Gail]mother [Shanna]and granddaughter [Atiana]. The trio appeared to be at a special occasion as Shanna paired a white and green dress with a floral wreath, and her daughter then wore a white christening gown.
The doting mom took it a step further by tagging Atiana and her other children — Alabama Luella and Landon Asher Barker — in a post that included the words, “Being your mother is the greatest privilege of my life.”
The last update from the model is a montage of her three children over the years, starting when they were little. Viewers see children dress up for Halloween, attend parties, visit the dentist and enjoy family vacations, among other monumental things.

Shanna continues to deal with the grief of losing her mother and doesn’t shy away from doing so publicly on occasion. In a recent post, he shared a screenshot of a text thread between him and Gail, in which the latter sent a video of a snow-covered street with an explanation:
“We should get snow today or tomorrow. I’m kind of looking forward to it [.] I like snow.”
“Lucky,” replied the grieving daughter, prompting her mother to reveal that she was in “such a good place,” adding a declaration of love for her family and daughter. The 48-year-old responded to the sentiment, and his mother chimed in, according to The Blast:
“I need my girl [.] you mean so much to me you don’t know. I am very proud of you. I’m so proud to be your mama.”
Then in April, the executive producer of the Miss Nevada USA pageant honored the Rhode Island resident by bringing home one of her favorite works of art. He showcased the artwork via social media, writing on it:
“This is my mother’s favorite piece of art; I just got to LA. It was very emotional for me ?.” The simple yet highly detailed octopus painting consists of the theme of nudity and greenery.
