During a recent episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” O’Neal and Kelce talked about retirement and the feelings that come with it. Although Kelce has not decided whether or not he will retire now or continue to play football a little longer, many conversations revolve around the possibility of retirement.
O’Neal, 51, explained why he decided to start DJing after retiring from the NBA after Kelce discussed having many opportunities waiting for him after retirement. He explains that the adrenaline he gets from DJ’ing is reminiscent of his days on the court as an NBA star.
He then shared some seasoned advice for the 36-year-old Philadelphia Eagles center.
“My advice to you is if you’re going to retire, take it,” O’Neal told Kelce. “It’s fun brother’s family. I did a lot of stupid things— mistakes where I lost my family, and I had nobody. That’s not the case for you. So, enjoy your beautiful wife, enjoy your beautiful children and never think about what we have.”
O’Neal went on to share a bit of his background.
“What we have is what we get. You got the ring. People know who you are. Enjoy,” he said. “Because again, I’m an idiot. And I’ve been talking about it for a long time. Losing my whole family. I was in a 100,000 square foot house by myself.”
Many fans took to the comments section of the podcast clip on Instagram to talk about how “real” O’Neal was for his advice and admitting where he got it wrong.
“Shaq is amazing! The way this guy heard it……❤,” wrote one. Another added, “Sometimes mistakes and maturity make us wise ❤️??.”
Another viewer shared, “You’re a great guy, we all make mistakes but that’s what we learn. You are a teacher to others with your words and soul. And I don’t like basketball but I like you. ❤”
Shaquille O’Neal Opens Up About His Past Mistakes In His Book
MEGA
The NBA champion shared his life story in his 2011 book, “Shaq Uncut: My Story.” He admitted not being “the best partner” and revealed that he’s “learning now.”
O’Neal is the father of six children, sons Shareef and Shaquir and daughters Amirah and Me’arah with ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal, daughter Taahirah with ex-girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh, and stepson Myles from Shaunie’s previous relationship . O’Neal and Shaunie were married for seven years, separating in 2009.
“At one time, my ex-wife Shaunie and I were happy, but I admit – I’m a man. I am a man with too many options,” he wrote in his book. “Choosing to be with some of those women, that’s up to me. In my mind, I never did it disrespectfully, but obviously I shouldn’t have done it at all.”
He also revealed that he was not “the best partner.”
“It’s not a big thing, it’s a small thing, and it’s my fault,” he wrote. “I have things to do. I’m trying to win, trying to make money. I admit I am not the best partner. I just don’t know how. I am studying now.”

O’Neal’s ex-wife, Shaunie Henderson, is releasing all of her memoirs and O’Neal isn’t worried one bit about the contents. She also supports her new book by sharing information about it on her social media.
“uh oh naaa I’m just playing congrats @iamshaunie. pre-sale link info in bio @iamshaunie,” she captioned a photo of her book cover on Instagram.
Henderson tells PEOPLE that O’Neal doesn’t know what’s in the book about him yet.
“[Shaquille] haven’t read it yet. I haven’t shared it with anyone but my husband and my publicist at this point,” she told PEOPLE. “Whoever is in it, I think they deserve to know what’s in it before anyone else does.”
Henderson also said he didn’t “throw her under the bus” in the chapter describing their journey together. She said that O’Neal’s public acknowledgment of what ended their marriage made it easier for her to tell the truth because “she told herself.”
“Anything involving Shaquille is always a blur because he is who he is, and no matter what our story is, nobody wants to hear what could be considered a not-so-great reputation,” he continued.
“I really told my story and my journey, of which he was a part. So I was always a little nervous about that, but I think I did a good job of sharing my story without destroying him because that wasn’t my intention at all.”
