Shaquille O’Neal has responded to those who criticized Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance.
After several years away, the singer made her much-anticipated return to the public stage by headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, February 12.
Not only did Rihanna perform some crowd-pleasing hits, but she also revealed her growing pregnancy, letting the world know that she and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, are expecting their second child together. Unfortunately, not everyone was thrilled with his performance, and O’Neal was fed up with their criticism.
Shaquille O’Neal Asks Haters To Shut Up About Rihanna’s Super Bowl Performance
When Rihanna took the Super Bowl stage nearly two weeks ago, she performed some of her biggest hits, including “Rude Boy,” “Diamonds,” “B*tch Better Have My Money,” and “Work.” While they were enough to move the crowd, some observers thought he could have done better with his movements and overall stage presence.
O’Neal, one of the many NBA heavyweights who enjoyed the show live, came to the star’s defense last Friday. While addressing the drama on that day’s episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” he stated:
“All of you disrespecting my Rihanna, shut your face. shut up. We live in a world where people have too much freedom. Keep your damn thoughts to yourself.”

The former professional basketball player stated that “What’s My Name?” the singer “did a great job,” especially because she did a “thang” and didn’t fall even though she was pregnant.
“All you superstars disrespecting and causing beef, cover your faces. Shut up,” O’Neal stated before revealing that if Rihanna was his girlfriend, he would “get” any high-profile person who bad mouthed him.
The 50-year-old ended his rant by asking the haters to leave the mother-of-one alone and give her a round of applause. With this applause, the seven-foot balloonist joins rapper Safaree — full name Safaree Lloyd Samuels — in fighting for Rihanna’s right to perform as she pleases.
The Blast recently reported that the “Hot Gyal Birthday” rapper came to the expectant mother’s defense last Wednesday when she took to Twitter to slam Howard Stern for his earlier remarks.
Safaree tweeted, “No defamation of Rihanna will be accepted by this white outlet… F**K YALL. Howard insisted this is not 1995 no 1 giving an af**k about your opinion. Go get a nose job with a fake a**k to become an afro and then go suck yuh mumma.”
The statement received support from Rihanna’s Navy members, with one replying, “I’ve been waiting for someone from the Caribbean to say something like this fire ? ? smoke yuh mumma. Leave Rihanna alone!” A second fan called for Safaree to speak “bastard,” while a third agreed that “their legacy” should stay in the ’90s where they belong.

The Blast reports that Stern offended many people after he accused Rihanna of lip-syncing 85% of her performance Sunday night on an episode of “The Howard Stern Show.” The radio host claimed he became aware of the incident when he moved the microphone away from his mouth and placed it around his knee.
While his co-host Robin Quivers tried to play down the rant, the 69-year-old went further to attack the multiple Grammy Award-winning babe, claiming:
“I have a theory, Rihanna doesn’t lip sync, but she puts a microphone near her vagina so the new baby can sing.”
In the same tone, the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, came for the performance and fashion of the owner of Fenty Beauty in social media rants. According to The Blast, the politician revealed:
“EPIC FAIL: Rihanna delivers, without question, the worst Halftime Show single in Super Bowl history. This after insulting more than half of our Country, which is already in a serious DECLINE, with foul and insulting language. Also, so much for her Stylist!”
The “unacceptable” style choices included a red custom Loewe jumpsuit that Rihanna unzipped down the middle, revealing a matching bodysuit, shiny bra and baby bump underneath. She accessorized with diamond earrings and red MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Low sneakers, styling her hair in a high ponytail.
The “Styled to Rock” star added a dramatic custom Alaïa coat to her ensemble to close out the exhilarating 13-minute set.
