Sheryl Lee Ralph was given a once in a lifetime opportunity – to perform at the upcoming Super Bowl LVII pregame – and she wasted no time in grabbing it!
The 66-year-old actor will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before the game on Sunday, February 12, which he discussed in a recent interview, expressing his delight at the opportunity.

Ralph is more than ready to sing alongside famous performers at the 2023 Super Bowl pregame, including country music star Chris Stapleton and R&B singer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

Describing her reaction to the offer, she told ET Online that there was no doubt in her acceptance as she felt honoured.
The award-winning celebrity admitted to having a “moment like, “What am I? They want me to sing at the Super Bowl – a song that was never part of the opening ceremony? me? Yes!”
He later compared the proposal to a nomination and explained, “I’ve been saying all awards season, ‘This is about the nomination,’ and for me, this is the nomination.” Ralph later declared that he was “ready to deliver” after stating that he would not have been chosen to perform alongside “great singers, artists and entertainers” if he had not been able to deliver.
Not only is he confident about his delivery, but his “Abbott Elementary” co-stars also believe in him as they have supported him since the announcement. It should be noted that ABC’s mockumentary, based in Philadelphia, is always rooting for the Philly Eagles, who will be playing the Kansas City Chiefs in the upcoming game. Ralph shared:
“Philly is at the top with ‘Abbott Elementary’ based in [the city]. They see this as an exciting final chapter for a new book to be written, or maybe it’s the first chapter as we head into the third season of ‘Abbott Elementary.’”

Ralph has always been open about his huge admiration for the Fenty founder, and he couldn’t help but reminisce about his experience at the fashion show, saying:
“Let me tell you, that was one of the greatest 60 seconds of my life. I was like, ‘Betta strut, Mama!’… I’ll have that forever, and I love how people try to do my choreography!”

When asked if the “Umbrella” singer would appear on “Abbott Elementary,” she held back, saying it could be an “amazing thing” while hinting that anything could happen.
The Tony Award winner went on to express how happy she is about all the great things in Rihanna’s life, including the baby and her relationship, before adding, “I’m glad I’m going to join her for the kill.”
According to reports, in addition to the “Lift Every Voice and Sing” show, Stapleton will sing the National Anthem while Babyface will sing “America the Beautiful.” Each performer will have someone with them providing American Sign Language (ASL) on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD).
It is reported that Stapleton will be joined by Troy Kotsur, who will sign the national anthem. Kotsur is only the second deaf person to win an Oscar after Marlee Martin.
