Shocking moment Florida mechanics pull 8-foot-long boa constrictor from car engine

Well, there’s your problem — you’ve got a snake in the engine.

A group of Florida mechanics were shocked when they found an 8-foot-long albino boa constrictor stuck in the engine of a Ford Focus on Tuesday.

Beach Automotive employees, stationed in Myrtle Beach, were working on the car when they found the large snake writhing under the hood, WPDE reported.

That’s when Russell Cavender — known as the “Snake Chaser” — arrives and jams his hands into the car to safely dislodge the snake, which appears to be stuck in the car’s mechanism.

Cavender was able to pull the snake out so slowly that he was able to grab hold of the end and guide it out, surprising the mechanics at the reptile’s size.

“I have found many things under the hood of the car. Possums, squirrel rats, and a few snakes, but never an 8-foot albino boa constrictor,” Cavender said in a Facebook post.

After rescuing the snake, the mechanic contacted the owner of the car, who told them they did not know where the snake had come from.

Boa constrictors are nonvenomous snakes commonly found in Central and South America that can grow up to 13 feet and weigh more than 100 pounds, according to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute.

The species is legal to own in Florida as a pet and serves as a popular pet among reptile owners, according to the US Reptile Keepers Association, Florida.

It is not uncommon for snakes in general to crawl under the hood of a car, as it often serves as the perfect enclosed space to keep the snake safe from predators.

Earlier this year, a Texas mother made headlines when she removed a snake from her daughter’s car engine using only gloves and a ruler.
