Shocking video shows large group pillage California 7-Eleven after street takeover

A gang of robbers can be seen ransacking a 7-Eleven convenience store outside of Sacramento in shocking new video released by police.

In the riotous video, dozens of rowdy shoplifters rampage through the store, entering and exiting through broken plate glass windows carrying boxes of beer and cigarettes.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the fight began after a nearby “sideshow” — an illegal, unsanctioned gathering where groups of drivers take over parking lots or busy public roads to perform dangerous automotive stunts.

The police arrived about five minutes after being called, but by the time they got there, the robbers were long gone.

Most of the robbers shown in the video did not try to hide their faces, but others tried to protect their identity either with ski masks or by pulling their shirts up over their noses. A man is seen repeatedly going back inside to get more items while wearing a clown mask with a bright orange wig.

Police said “this investigation is very active,” and they believe some of the suspects may be from the Bay Area. Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for tips leading to an arrest.

California has seen a sharp rise in these types of brazen gang thefts, from gas stations to jewelry stores to luxury goods stores in high-end malls, often in broad daylight.

Many videos of the robbery have been widely circulated on social media, leading to widespread criticism that the state government’s lax approach to shoplifting is not enough to curb such incidents.

Last month, law enforcement agencies in San Francisco and Los Angeles announced that the state would spend $267 million to increase enforcement efforts in an effort to crack down on smash-and-grab robberies across the state.

New York City has also been the victim of several high-profile smash-and-grab robberies this year, including an incident at a Park Slope jewelry store in January where thieves made off with $2 million worth of merchandise in less than a minute.
