A small passenger plane was forced to use a Virginia highway as a landing strip Friday in a messy landing that saw the plane crash into a fence.
Southern Airways Express Flight 246 made a “hard landing” on the Loudoun County Parkway at 12:50 p.m., almost immediately after taking off from nearby Washington Dulles International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Fortunately, none of the seven people – including a 15-year-old boy – on the plane were injured and no cars on the road were hit, the airline said.

Authorities have not revealed what caused the pilot to make an emergency landing just two minutes into his flight, but the area was already struggling with snowy conditions at the time.
The flight was scheduled to depart Dulles for Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at 12:45 p.m., according to FlightAware data.
Dulles said to X that it received a report of a departing aircraft landing at the airport on a nearby road.

It landed in the westbound lane of the highway, blocking traffic for several hours.
Amazing footage shared by the state Department of Transportation showed a tow truck slowly pulling a single-engine Cessna 208 Caravan off the highway while surrounded by the flashing lights of dozens of emergency vehicles.
Virginia State Police identified the pilot as Ahmed Awais, 27, a resident of Florida. A second crew member, four adult passengers and a teenage passenger were also on board.
Authorities did not name the cause of the emergency landing, but the area was struggling with snow conditions at the time. AP
“We are relieved to report no injuries, and all passengers are safe and sound,” Southern Airways Express CEO Stan Little said in a statement.
“We are grateful to our pilots, who did what they were trained to do — put the safety of our passengers first. We are working closely with the authorities to thoroughly investigate this situation.”
The FAA will investigate the emergency landing.
