Smokey Robinson has revealed that he once had an affair with Diana Ross.
Robinson shared in a recent interview that he dated the iconic musician for a year while he was still married to his first wife, Claudette Rogers.
He also stated that the affair had just happened and that neither was pursuing the other. He recently released a new studio album, “GASMS,” after ten decades of not releasing new music.

Speak to Caretaker on Thursday, Robinson shared that she had been in a relationship with Ross, which lasted about a year.
He had met her while he was still trying to “get his career” together, and even though he was still married to his first wife, Ross’s beauty seemed to make him fall for her.
“I was married at the time. [Ross and I] work together, and it happens. But it’s beautiful,” said the 83-year-old music icon, per People magazine. “She is a beautiful woman, and I love her today. He is one of the closest people to me. He’s still young and trying to get his career together.”
Robinson added that all he wanted to do in the beginning was help Ross build and it wasn’t a case of either chasing each other.
He added, “I was trying to help him. I took him to Motown. I didn’t chase him, and he didn’t chase me. It just happened.”

However, as almost all illicit affairs are bound to hit, Robinson and Ross’ relationship ended after both planted their consciences.
“After seeing each other for a while, Diana told me she couldn’t do that because she knew Claudette, and she knew I still loved my wife,” Robinson said. “And I did. I love my wife very much.”
Describing the relationship, Robinson stated that he learned humans “are capable of loving more than one person at the same time” and that “it’s not because someone isn’t worthy or they don’t live up to your expectations.”
He then explains that it is possible to feel this way because no one can control love and feelings.
He shared, “If we could control love, no one would love anyone. No one would take that chance. Why would you put your heart out there for someone to hurt you like that and make you be able to have that feeling?

Robinson has been out of the music game for a while but has returned with a new studio album, “GASMS,” on April 28. The record is his first solo studio album in nearly a decade, and it has nine songs on the album, including the lead single, “If We Don’t Have One Each Other.”
In February, he shared that making music was still his greatest passion, saying that it was something he loved and “couldn’t find anything to replace it” for me, per Many people.
Robinson received the 2023 MusiCares Persons of the Year the same month along with Motown Records founder Berry Gordy.
“This is an incredible thing for me,” Robinson said of the honor, which was recognized as the first time two people have received the prize. “They gave it to me and Berry, my best friend, and he certainly deserves it.”

In addition to receiving great rewards, Robinson enjoyed seeing several singers, such as Brandi Carlile and Chloe X Halle, who took the stage and performed songs made famous by The Supremes, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and others.
The singer revealed, per USA Todaythat he wants his music to remain relevant even after he leaves this world, saying it’s a “dream come true” for him when singers sing his songs.
“As a songwriter, I want to write music that people will sing forever,” he said. “I want to be Beethoven, man.”
“Most of the people who have recorded my music are songwriters themselves. There are a billion songs in the world. So when someone chooses one of mine, it’s a dream come true for me.”
