An Ohio social worker accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy in his care showed up with a gun at the boy’s home — where he blamed the family for “ruining his life” and allegedly threatened to kill the teenager’s mother and himself.
Payton Shires, 24, of Mount Sterling, was charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor on Oct. 6 after he allegedly admitted to the harassing conduct during a call with the boy’s mother and Columbus detectives.
But Shires ran into more trouble about 5:30 Thursday afternoon when he showed up at the teenager’s home with a gun, WBNS reported. Her mother was away but noticed the young woman on the porch through her doorbell camera, according to the station.
Responding officers found Shires sitting with a gun pointed to his head and with his finger on the trigger — yelling that he was going to kill himself, the outlet reported, citing court records.

The boy’s mother reportedly told investigators that Shires called her and told her he wanted to kill her and then take her own life because she and her son had ruined his life.
Shires has also been charged with intimidation of a crime victim and intimidation of a crime witness.

The suspect previously worked with the National Youth Advocate Program, a group that specializes in working with families involved in the foster care system, according to the Columbus Dispatch. It is not clear if he was assigned to the boy through NYAP.
The boy’s mother called police on Sept. 27 to report her suspicions after allegedly discovering inappropriate text messages between her son and Shires.
Investigators allegedly found footage of the boy and Shires having sex. When they interviewed the boy, he reportedly admitted to having sex with her at least twice in September.
Shires was initially held on $500,000 bond, which he posted on Oct. 12, but it has reportedly been revoked and he will remain jailed until his next court appearance on Nov. 6.
