The end of another Hollywood fairy tale romance happened on July 17 when Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced they were separating after seven years of marriage.
They also released a joint statement, which read, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people who love and care deeply for each other, we politely ask for your privacy to be respected at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
Two days later, Manganiello filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” listing the separation date as July 2. He also stated that the couple had a prenup, and Vergara also asked for the same to be upheld. Both parties agree to spousal support determined by their prenuptial agreement, the details of which are withheld. However, Vergara has noted in her legal documents, that “various jewelry, artwork and other personal items,” which includes any income she earned before, during and after the date of their separation, belong to her. The couple’s joint property will also be divided in the manner determined by the prenuptial agreement and the estranged spouse has agreed to pay their own attorney’s fees.
The literal bone of contention is Bubbles, and for a while, it looks like the divorce is headed for the worse.

Since the dog is dear to both of them, neither Vergara nor Manganiello want to give up Bubbles. According to an article in Life & Style, “They both really want the dog, and neither is backing down.”
In fact, just a week before they announced their split, Vergara, 51, and Manganiello, 46, posted separate tributes on Instagram for the Chihuahua’s 10th birthday. They adopted Bubbles shortly after tying the knot in 2015.
Vergara wrote on her Instagram Stories, “No matter how many times [you] bite me i will always love [you],” the Modern Family actress captioned a photo of Bubbles’ “sweet, fierce” pink frosted cake. Meanwhile, the “True Blood” star shared a video of the precious pooch, enjoying a Starbucks puppuccino.
At first, it looked like Vergara and Manganiello would end up in a contentious divorce, as the source added, “Joe thinks he should keep Bubbles. They’re inseparable, and Sofía says she’s obsessed with him. But Sofía adores Bubbles, too, and thought it was fair for him to stay with her. It was a real dog fight.”
Now, it looks like Sofia Vergara has ended it by handing her 10-year-old Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix, Bubbles, to estranged husband Joe Manganiello without a fight.

According to California State law, pets are considered personal property when a couple divides their assets. However, after a new law was passed in 2019, a judge presiding over a divorce can now take into account the best interests of the pet’s well-being and then make a custody decision.
The former couple apparently wanted to keep their beloved dog out of court, though it was Vergara who adopted Bubbles. That said, the “Magic Mike” star really bonded with the dog.
According to a source, “None of them are bitter or want revenge, and Sofía loves Bubbles and wants her to be happy, which is why she’s letting Joe have custody.” Apparently, Vergara was very “generous” about it all, and the source added, “[Manganiello] said Sofía has the biggest heart and would never do anything to hurt her or Bubbles on purpose.”
Manganiello is also feeling the loss of his best friend, Paul Reubens, so having Bubble might comfort him.
In 2021, Vergara, 51, joked on “The Tonight Show” about how Bubbles chose her husband over her, “He hates me. He’s supposed to be for me. He’s supposed to be my dog. He gets home and I don’t know, he thinks he’s for Joe and that’s all he wants to do.”
She went on to tell Fallon at the time, “It’s horrible, he hates me. He’s so mean to me. He bites me! He’s not that cute in person. I have to say, [Joe[ treats her like she’s a little daughter he has. But she insists on, you know, behaving like a concubine or like a mistress or something.”
