Son of Buc-ee’s co-founder accused of using hidden camera to spy on guests in Texas lake house bathroom

The son of the co-founder of the Buc-ee’s department store is facing more than two dozen charges for allegedly filming at least 13 people using the bathroom at his father’s multi-million Texas lake house and other properties, according to reports.

Mitchell Wasek, 28, faces charges he secretly filmed men and women “using the restroom, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex,” according to an arrest affidavit from Texas authorities and reported by Austin-based KXAN.

Wasek, the son of Buc-ee co-founder Donald Wasek, was arrested Tuesday in Travis County, the outlet reported.

The sinister scheme was exposed when a guest at the lake house – who was there with Mitchell Wasek – spotted a charging port with a hidden camera attached to the bathroom wall, the station reported.

The friends took the camera and found dozens of videos of themselves and others in the lake house’s bathroom and bedroom on microcards, and in Mitchell Wasek’s Dallas apartment, court records state.

“They were unaware that the footage existed in the bedroom and bathroom, and indicated they did not consent to being recorded or photographed,” the arrest affidavit said.

When the camera and its information were turned over to police, 68 recording files including 13 alleged victims were on it, the affidavit said.

The videos date back to at least 2021 from other locations, including an Austin condo and a vacation home in Colorado, owned by Mitchell Wasek’s parents, KXAN reported, citing property records.

The purchase of a “spy camera” was also linked to Wasek and when the crowd was filmed, Wasek was the only family member in the house, the station reported.

Wasek was charged with 28 felony counts of invasive visual recording and was released from jail after posting $280,000 bail.

The brand business is known for its clean bathrooms and even brags about it on its website.

The first location was opened in 1982 by Arch Aplin III before Don Wasek, who owned the store himself, joined the business three years later, Forbes said in a 2017 report.

Dozens of stores, mostly based in the South, also have gas stations and car washes, in addition to grocery and food.
