Speeding driver who hit and killed girl, 6, blamed her for being a ‘r—-d’: warrant

A North Carolina driver accused of fatally hitting a 6-year-old girl allegedly became enraged when questioned by police — blaming the girl who died and calling her a “r—-d.”

Andrew Everett, 50, was allegedly driving 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit when he hit Joselin Perez Hernandez as she played outside her Cary home around 11:15 a.m. Friday, according to a search warrant obtained by WRAL.

Responding police said Everett – who had drug paraphernalia in his car – showed a “lack of remorse” and was “impatient during the investigation.”

“I’m not sure why this investigation took more than five minutes,” he complained, according to the warrant.

“It’s not my fault, no one was watching and he jumped out in front of me.

“That r—-d.”

Officials also noted the lack of skid marks on the road, suggesting Everett did not attempt to brake before hitting the young girl.

The girl was taken to a local hospital with brain and spinal injuries, from which she eventually died.

His father remembers him as someone who liked to make people smile, watch TV, and “dance all day.”

“He wants people to know that Joselin is a person [caring] and a very loving girl,” a family friend told WRAL, adding: “People who met her were hurt by the news.”

The Cary community has since come together to build a memorial of stuffed animals and flowers growing outside her home, and the unidentified family friend said police are “helping the family with everything.”

“Friendship and peace help them [and] society [who] come out and leave the roses, that’s what helps them get over it,” said the friend.

In a statement, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht said: “Our condolences go out to the family grieving the loss of their son.

“Our community is united in support, offering strength and compassion to all affected by this profound loss.”

Everett was charged with wrongful death by motor vehicle, criminal involuntary manslaughter, failure to reduce speed, exceeding the posted speed limit, and careless and reckless driving.

He is being held in the Wake County Jail on a $26,000 bond and is expected back in court on January 22.

The Post has reached out to the Wake County Public Defender’s Office, which represents Everett, for comment.
