SPOILER: Shocking Reason Zach Shallcross Is On Zoom In ‘Bachelor’ Promo

Zach Shallcross made headlines last year after his heartbreak on “The Bachelorette” following his fantasy suite with lead Rachel Recchia. Shortly after Recchia’s season ended, the franchise announced that Shallcross would be the next “Bachelor.”

So far in the Shallcross season, it seems like he’s not taking any chances with the drama, as he’s sent some girls home after several women came forward with accusations against them.

In a promo for next week, the “Bachelor” lead is seen in a gray suit sitting in front of a laptop, seemingly talking to someone on Zoom before host Jesse Palmer comes in to say he has “very bad news”, which then leads to Shallcross said “This week has been robbed.”

Why Zach Shallcross Was Seen On The ‘Bachelor’ Promo Zoom In

Fans were left with a lot of questions after hearing Shallcross say those four words while appearing to cry and while he was in, what many suspect, isolation — suggesting that whatever Palmer and Shallcross were referring to was bad enough to possibly put the production on hold, or at the very least , far away.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

Of course, Bachelor Nation will find out why during the next episode of “The Bachelor,” but for those who don’t want to wait until Monday, spoilers have revealed why Shallcross is on Zoom and crying — he contracted COVID-19 while in London.

According to Reality Steve, “production had to stop the whole time there” because “The Bachelor” tested positive for COVID. Shallcross is reportedly continuing the rose ceremony for this week and doing so via Zoom, which is why he’s wearing a gray suit in the promo.

Reality Steve reports that Shallcross went one-on-one with Gabi before she tested positive, though it’s unclear if Gabi also got sick or, if Shallcross gave her a rose, if she had to go into isolation for good.

Shallcross’ reported contract of COVID-19 will be the first time the franchise’s leading man has tested positive for the virus while filming. It was also the first time the leader would hold a rose ceremony over Zoom.

Ahead of her season premiere, which airs on Monday, January 23, Shallcross has spoken out, claiming her season will be “the most emotional” yet.

“It may not have been the most dramatic season, but it was the most emotional season they’ve had,” Shallcross tells PEOPLE. “But that doesn’t mean there won’t be drama this season. There is no shortage of drama.”

When asked how he felt about handling this season, the 26-year-old told PEOPLE “there were some situations where I think everyone could have handled something better,” however, he felt he handled “everything in a way that felt right.”

“I follow what’s right for my heart and my gut,” he said.

Zach Shallcross’ season of “The Bachelor” continues Mondays at 8pm ET on ABC. Episodes are available to stream the following day on Hulu.
