‘Squad’ members draw outrage with Israel ceasefire resolution: ‘Pro-terrorist’

More than a dozen left-leaning House Democrats called for an end to Israel’s nine-day war Monday with a resolution that referred to the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack as “armed terrorism” and made no mention of the American hostages being held. in the Gaza Strip.

The “Ceasefire Now Resolution,” — introduced by Representatives Cori Bush of Missouri, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Andre Carson of Indiana, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania and Delia Ramirez of Illinois — demands that the Biden administration “immediately call for and facilitate de-escalation [sic] and a ceasefire to immediately end the current violence” and “immediately deliver and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.”

“I grieve for every Palestinian, Israeli and American life lost as a result of this violence, and my heart breaks for those who will be forever traumatized by it,” Bush said in a statement.

“War and revenge violence do not achieve accountability or justice; it only brings more death and human suffering. We cannot bomb our way to peace, equality and freedom.”

The bill’s supporters also include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, and Nydia Velazquez of New York; Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey; Chuy Garcia and Jonathan Jackson of Illinois; and Ilhan Omar from Minnesota.

Supporters of Israel slammed the resolution, saying it came as the Jewish state prepared to launch a ground invasion to destroy Hamas after it killed more than 1,300 people – including at least 30 Americans.

“‘We must do everything we can to save lives,'” Israel’s War Room X account tweeted in response to Bush. “What do you think Israel is doing? It is working to destroy a terrorist organization that has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians from around the world.”

“Why don’t you call Hamas to release the hostages?” user Dan Goldwasser wrote.

“Calling for an end to violent acts after a group of Jews have been killed but before they can take revenge on those responsible, is inhumane or neutral,” wrote another user. “It’s pro-terror.”

“Where is at least the call to release the hostages?” ask user Joel Weingart. “Israel has a duty to protect its people from Nazi-Hamas.

“The Allies fought the Nazis because it was necessary to stop them. America would never have considered an armistice with the Nazis during WW2.”

“The armed conflict cost the lives of the Israelis eh?” added another Twitter commenter. “These people are anti-American [sic]. They would have left us all to die if they didn’t have the same political beliefs or preferred skin color.”

Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip with near-constant airstrikes for more than a week ahead of a potential ground invasion, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to “demolish Hamas.”

In addition to the 30 Americans who were confirmed dead, 13 could not be traced, according to the State Department.

The Biden administration has confirmed that US citizens are among those held hostage by Hamas, but has not provided an exact number.

Many of the radicals who supported the resolution urged Israel to show restraint in the hours after the attack, drawing rebuke from the White House.

“I’ve seen some of those statements this weekend, and we’re going to continue to be very clear. We believe they are wrong, we believe they are disgusting, and we believe they are shameful,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Oct. 10.

“Our condemnation belongs to the terrorists who have brutally killed, raped, kidnapped hundreds, hundreds of Israeli citizens. There is no doubt about that. There are no two sides here. There are no two sides.”

Omar has been criticized by his fellow Democrats for his antisemitic remarks, including the implication that supporters of the Jewish state are paid.

President Biden and the Democratic leadership, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), have been vocal supporters of Israel.

Schumer told The Post Sunday that “if the threat of Hamas is not eliminated, they will do it again,” and added that he hopes supporters of Hamas and the Palestinian cause can hear the families of those detained.

“Everybody, every senator is crying, everybody is crying,” he said. “And I said, ‘I wish those who think Israel is wrong would just listen to these parents and the grief they are facing through the cruel and brutal Hamas.'”
