Members of the left “Squad”, Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib blamed Israel for Tuesday’s bombing of a Gaza City hospital that killed hundreds — demanding President Biden call for a ceasefire ahead of his trip to the Middle East.
“Bombing hospitals is one of the worst war crimes. The IDF reportedly blew up one of the few places the wounded and wounded could get medical care and protection during wartime is appalling,” Omar (D-Minn.) write on X.
“@POTUS needs to call for an immediate ceasefire to end this slaughter.”
Tlaib (D-Mich.) also accused the Israel Defense Forces of being behind the blast at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital that Gaza officials say killed more than 500 people — but took Omar’s sentiment a step further.
Tlaib accused the 80-year-old commander-in-chief of playing a role in the massacre by not intervening to defuse the conflict between Israel and Hamas after the terror group launched its surprise attack on October 7, killing more than 1,300 people in Israel.

“Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that,” Tlaib, the first Palestinian American elected to Congress, said in a statement.
“@POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help defuse. Your approach to war and destruction alone has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslim Americans like me. We will remember where you stand.”
Biden said he was “angry and deeply saddened” by the deadly bombing, but declined to say who he believed was responsible.

Israel has denied Hamas claims that it was behind the blast at the hospital, which houses thousands of displaced Palestinians who have not moved under the command of the IDF.
Israeli officials instead claimed Hamas was behind the attack after launching a faulty rocket and later shared a video on Instagram that allegedly showed the rocket misfiring moments before the hospital was hit.
In the wake of the tragedy – which marked the deadliest single incident since the outbreak of war – members of the Rep. “Squad” Cori Bush (D-MO) renewed her plea for other members of Congress to join the “Ceasefire Now Resolution.”

Bush introduced the legislation on Monday, demanding that the Biden administration “immediately call for and facilitate de-escalation [sic] and a cease-fire to immediately end the current violence” and “immediately deliver and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.”
“500 doctors, patients and civilians were killed after a hospital in Gaza was bombed. We cannot turn away from this violence. We must avoid further loss of life,” Bush said Tuesday.
The hospital bombing came just hours before Biden was due to depart for his trip to Israel, where he will visit Tel Aviv on Wednesday to reaffirm US support for Israel in its fight against Hamas.

Now 11 days after the Israeli counterattack, health officials say at least 3,000 Palestinians have been killed.
Israeli officials have vowed to destroy Hamas in an expected ground attack on Gaza, with IDF soldiers also looking to rescue more than 150 taken hostage by Hamas.
