A volunteer youth soccer coach St. Louis was shot in the back on Tuesday in front of his 9- and 10-year-old players by a father ticked off about his son’s playtime, prosecutors allege.
Shaquille Latimore was injured when Daryl Clemmons allegedly shot him four times after a week-long feud finally escalated during practice this week, the victim and authorities said.
“I didn’t see his gun until it was too late,” Latimore told St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I ran, and he shot me in the back. I fell, and he shot me several more times.”
Clemmons, who had coached the same team before Latimore came on board, allegedly taunted him while he was on the ground before other adults jumped in.
“After he shot me,” Latimore said, “he was like … ‘I told you I would [expletive].’”
Latimore, 30, told authorities that Clemmons “was upset with her for not starting her son,” according to a probable cause statement provided by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office. Louis.

Clemmons, 43, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Latimore volunteers as an assistant coach for an urban recreation team called St. Louis BadBoyz, which consists of 9- and 10-year-olds and coaches with their cousins, the Post-Dispatch reported.
He was also armed when he showed up to the field because, he said, it was in a bad part of town, but he gave the weapon to another adult before practice began, according to the newspaper.

“I gave my gun to someone else to hold. I do not want [Clemmons] felt threatened,” Latimore reportedly said. He added that if he had a gun on him, “I would have defended myself.”
The coach, who is also a married father of five, was taken to hospital for treatment and is now in a stable condition.
The victim’s mother, SeMiko Latimore, called the shooting “senseless.”

“We should be taking these kids off the streets and teaching them what to do, what not to do. We traumatized all these children because their coach was shot in front of them,” he told the newspaper.
“He could have easily hit one of those kids.”
Out-of-control parents aiming their anger at coaches is nothing new.
A Virginia father was arrested in August after he allegedly punched his son’s youth soccer coach in an attack that left the victim with a black eye and swollen face.
