The challenge has been around for a long time and fans will finally be able to witness the 3-point shootout NBA and WNBA fans alike have been waiting for.
Although many basketball fans may think that Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry holds the all-time record for most points scored in a single round during the 3-point contest, that is not correct. And now Curry wants to try to steal that record from the person who currently holds it.
Curry recently challenged WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu to a 3-point challenge during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend, held Feb. 16-18 in Indianapolis, to see if she could take the record from her.

For the past few months, the NBA star has been loudly trying to take the 3-point record from Ionescu. When Ionescu challenged Curry on X, formerly known as Twitter, last summer, Curry made it clear he was up for the challenge.
“I have to catch Sabrina’s record,” Curry told ESPN at the time. “I have something to shoot for right now because he went crazy with 37 points on their All-Star weekend. We’ll have to finish it for sure to see who the best 3-point shooter is.”
Shortly after Curry’s interview, Ionescu tweeted, “Let’s get it,” and then after she won the WNBA three-point contest, she again brought up the topic by tweeting, “shoot out?” tagged Kari.
Fast forward to now and Curry is the one challenging Ionescu.
“Do you know who holds the record for most points in a 3-point contest?” Curry asked Golden State Warriors player Brandin Podziemski, who replied, “Sabrina.” Curry followed it up by saying, “Ooooooooh! I feel like I have to take him out and be like, we have to get this over with once and for all. I think I need to challenge him. It will be lit.”
And Ionescu responded to Curry’s challenge in a tweet!
Let’s get it!! See you on line 3 pt? @StephenCurry30 https://t.co/ES0JlEDJW3

Another said, “Sabrina has nothing to lose. Curry has everything to lose.”
Some also asked about “NBA 3 range” and WNBA balls.
“Give me the curry WNBA ball and rules ?,” said one. Another added, “Aren’t the women’s lines closer?? Lmao case closed he loses every time.” Another asked, “They shot from different lines?”
Bleacher Report also shared an Instagram post about Curry vs. Ionescu and fans joined in the comments there.
The WNBA wrote, “Tuned in,” in the comments.
One fan wrote, “That would be crazy!! Let’s do it!”
Some people focus on the difference between the NBA and the WNBA. “Totally unfair the nba 3 point line is longer and the wnba line will be like a 2 pointer for Steph,” wrote one. Another added, “The balls are the same size or it’s not fair.”
Ionescu’s team, the New York Liberty, told fans to “get the popcorn ready” on Instagram.
Who do you think will walk away with the record – Ionescu or Curry?
