Amell faced backlash from fans after speaking out about the great efforts of his union, SAG-AFTRA, who called the move “reductive” and “short-sighted.”
The actor’s fans did not take his comments well, prompting him to add more context to his statement on his Instagram page.
“Understood, there was a lot of backlash to the comments I made this weekend about our strike,” Amell began. “To ensure there is no misunderstanding of my thoughts and intentions, I provide what I actually said and clarity/context to ensure my feelings are not accidentally misinterpreted. We all know noise can be taken out of context and I have too much respect for my union members not to clear the record.”
The “The Flash” actor then went on to provide a breakdown of his controversial comments, which caused a huge stir online, along with an explanation.
‘My Support Is Unconditional, And I Stand With Them’

Beginning his lengthy explanation, Amell reiterated his support for SAG-AFTRA, saying that his comments at GalaxyCon, “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them,” didn’t need “a lot of clarification” because “his support is unconditional.”
Regarding his more controversial statement that he “doesn’t support the strike,” Amell said, “What does this mean in full context: I understand the fundamentals of why we’re here. My use of the word ‘support’ is uncharacteristically at odds with my actual feelings and statements I am firm that I stand by my union. Of course I don’t like to strike. Nobody does. But we have to do what we have to do.”
Addressing his other comments about the strike being a “reductive negotiating tactic” that he found “very frustrating,” Amell said, “In full context: I’m an actor and I spoke extemporaneously for over an hour. I emote, but I certainly don’t think This issue is simple.”
He continued, “Our leadership has a very complicated job and I am grateful for everything they do. Despite some of my terrible early acting work, I assure you, I am no robot. From an intellectual perspective, I understand why we got attention, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t emotionally frustrating on many levels for everyone involved.”
Stephen Amell Explains His Statement About The Strike Was ‘Shortsighted’

Amell took his comments part to continue his lengthy statement about his remarks about the SAG-AFTRA strike at GalaxyCon.
Regarding his comment: “I think that thought related to a show like the one I was on that aired last night, I think it’s short-sighted,” Amell explained that he “didn’t know” what “he was trying to say.”
He wrote, “What I mean: Nothing about the strike is funny but if I can push back for a moment. I don’t know what I’m trying to say here and who said, ‘I thought that thought…?’ Maybe it’s an unspoken shout-out to our crew and cast, who mean the world to me. I’m just sad that we didn’t have a chance to celebrate the show that we all figuratively and I literally, broke my back.”

While wrapping up his remarks regarding his controversial statement at GalaxyCon, Amell subtly addressed the backlash from critics and fans alike.
He wrote, “As I said from the post to ensure my thoughts and intentions are not misconstrued. This situation reminds [me] the proverbial, ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions,’ which seems, after reading the limited reviews, to be a place many of you want me to visit.
He added, “However, at least for the future, I choose to stand with my union. When you see me on the picket line, please don’t whip any hard fruit.”
