Stephen King Seeks Nomination for ‘Worst Line of Dialogue in a Movie’

Okay, so now I’m thinking about it: YOUR NOMINATION FOR WORST LINE OF DIALOGUE IN A MOVIE!

On Saturday night, the author of “The Stand” decided to have some fun with his Twitter followers.

He tweeted, “Okay, so now I think about it: YOUR NOMINATION FOR WORST LINE OF DIALOGUE IN A MOVIE!”

Fans are not shy about giving their responses.

When Rocky says that line… “Better than twenty million”, the Russian translator says “20 Million Dollars”. I think Stallone edited it out in the recent re-release, but it’s still in my DVD box set from 2006, and we have good laugh until today.

One user called the entire speech at the end of “Rocky IV” “horrific”, citing, “Here, there’s two guys killing each other, but I guess that’s better than twenty million. I guess what I’m trying to say, is if I can change, and you can change, everyone can change!”

It’s a great line!

Another user pointed to a line delivered by Storm in the 2000s “X-Men” movie when she said, “Do you know what happens to frogs when they get struck by lightning? The same goes for everything else.” However, another user pointed out, “It’s a great line!”

I’m waiting for it to be released on a streaming service so I don’t mind watching it for less.

Apparently, there are not many fans of the “Avatar” sequel. “Can I submit every line in Avatar: The Way of Water?” one user asked. “Because that’s a really horrible dialogue. Everything.” Former ABC reporter and producer Kathryn Magann responded, “I’m waiting for it to be released on a streaming service so I don’t mind watching it for less.”

Other fans included a GIF from the 1990 film “Trolls 2” that read “They ate him. And then they’re going to eat me. Oh my goooooooooooood.” The delivery of the line prompted one follower to say it was one of the “best” lines of dialogue, when Stephen King was clearly asking for the worst.

One of the worst movie lineups in recent history came from 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” which concluded the nine-episode Skywalker Saga. “Scenes From A Marriage” star Oscar Isaac delivered the line “Somehow, Palpatine’s back” to make it instant meme material.

Although it is said that the “I hate sand” GIF has been “forgotten”, the line “I don’t like sand, it’s gross, gross, annoying and gets everywhere” from the prequel trilogy “Attack of the Clones” ” continues to stand out as one of the lines the most memorable dialogue ever spoken in a Star Wars movie.

“but I’ll go to Toshi station and pick up some power converters!”

Actually spelled ‘Tosche Station,’ the line, “But I went to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters,” famously uttered by teenage moisture farmer Luke Skywalker, is still a fan favorite from 1977’s “A New Hope.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mark Hamill explained why he approaches lines of dialogue with that whiny inflection. “I think we can probably only make the first film because the second and third parts are based on the performance of the first,” he explained. “So I said, I’ve got to make this as juvenile as I can so there’s room for growth. And I kind of want to make it sound like I have four sisters and two annoying people when you’re in the car and they’ll be like, ‘You said we could go to the mall.’ So I want to give that taste.”

“It was terrifying even at the time,” he continued. “But I explained to George [Lucas] what I just told you, and he said, ‘Yeah, okay, do it.’ Little did I know that it would haunt me for decades. In fact, Empire magazine said that the top Luke Skywalker moment from all five movies was that line. That’s when I knew they didn’t know what they were talking about. I am very humiliated.”
