Suneeta Rao is an Indian playback singer, pop singer and stage actress. He is famous for singing the song “Paree Hoon Main” from the Hindi music album ‘Dhuan’ (1991).

Suneeta Rao aka Sunita Rao was born on Wednesday, April 5, 1967 (age 56 years; in 2023) in Germany. His zodiac sign is Aries. In childhood, he began his training in Carnatic vocal music under Indian singer PV Shankar. She is also trained in several dance forms such as Bharatanatyam and Jazz Ballet.
In 1983, he attended Bombay International School, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He continued his studies at the College of St. Xavier, Mumbai. While she was studying in college, Suneeta started performing in stage plays.

His father’s name is Dr DK Rao. His mother, Komala Sista Rao, was an Indian classical singer and author. He has three siblings; one brother and two sisters. His sister Kalpana Rao owns a music group called Just Two. His sister Aarti Rao is a singer. His brother, Narasimha Rao, is a guitarist and former visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.

Stage Play
He has performed professionally in various musical stage plays such as ‘Evita,’ ‘They’re Playing Our Song’ and ‘Greased Lightning.’
Music Albums
In 1989, she started her career as a singer with the Hindi music album ‘Senorita.’ Some of the songs from the music album are ‘Chhoo Lein Aasman,’ ‘Kaun Jane,’ ‘Ye Sama,’ and ‘Mazaa.’
He came into limelight with the 1991 Hindi music album ‘Dhuan’ in which he sang the song “Paree Hoon Main.” After the success of the song, many media houses started saying ‘Paree of the Masses’.
In 1999, he released another Hindi music album titled ‘Talaash.’ Some of the popular songs from the album are “Kesariyaa,” “Deewangi” and “Sheeshe Me.”
Later, he released several Hindi singles such as “Choti Choti Batein” (1997), “Mujhe Pyar Ho Gaya” (2001), and “Vaada Karo” (2018).

He has lent his voice to many songs in Hindi films such as ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ (1993), ‘Ek Tha Raja’ (1996), ‘Laawaris’ (1999), ‘Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge’ (2000), and ‘Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye’ (2000). In 1994, she made her Telugu film debut as a playback singer with the film ‘May Madham’ where she lent her voice for the song “Adi Paru Mangatha.”
He worked with Indian music director AR Rahman in the film. He has also sung sequences in various Telugu songs such as “Bang Bang” from ‘Bava Nachadu’ (2001) and “Adithadi Appatha” from ‘Samurai (2002).

Facts/Trivia
- When she was studying at school, she once participated in a singing competition. Since childhood, he wanted to be a singer and entertainer.
- At the age of 16, while he was performing in a musical on stage, he was spotted by Indian actor Sanjeev Kohli. In an interview, while talking about it, Suneeta said,
I was on stage doing Grease and was only 16 at the time. Sanjeev Kohli saw me on stage and he approached me and said, ‘I want to do an Indipop album’. At first, I wasn’t interested in Indipop, I was like, ‘No, I’m not going to sing in Hindi and I’m in English theater and a performer, you know, nose-up-in-the-air stuff. (laugh). But a year and a half later, I wised up. I said, to reach people, I have to sing in Hindi.”
- After the success of the Hindi song “Paree Hoon Main,” her fans started calling her Suneeta Paree Rao.
- He has been associated with an NGO called Population First for a long time. He has been working for ‘Laadli,’ an initiative to save the daughter. In June 2014, he participated in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon to raise funds for the Laadli campaign.
- In his spare time, he likes to read books and draw.
- In 2017, she came out in the media to share that her song ‘Paree Hoon Main’ was used in one of Shah Rukh Khan’s TV commercials without her consent. He further said that his song has been misused in advertisements and misrepresented. In an interview, while talking about it, he said,
When high-profile brands, big-name agencies and smart superstars get together and create ads, which can best be described as prejudiced, narrow-minded and insensitive, knowing full well that there are a million impressionable minds out there who blindly believe and enjoy what is offered on screen, one wonders if the ‘influencers’ really care about the influence they have, or if they are just greedy businesses making money without thinking about the social implications of their actions.”
Later, his song ‘Paree Hoon Main’ came back into the news as several media sources claimed that the song conveyed the message of child abuse. However, Suneeta denied all the allegations and said the song is about women’s beauty and not child abuse.
