The man arrested last month in connection with the slaying of a Connecticut newscaster’s mother has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder.
Shawn Conlon, 44, entered the plea at a hearing in Brattleboro, Vermont, on Friday.
Conlon was arrested in Connecticut in late December – 10 months after 73-year-old Claudia Voight was found dead in her home on February 20.
Investigators initially thought Voight suffered a medical event, but an autopsy later revealed that he was killed by neck compression.
Voight’s daughter, NBC Connecticut anchor Heidi Voight, announced the circumstances of her mother’s death in August.
“My mother’s death was not justified, nor was it peaceful. My mother was murdered, brutally, in the place where she should have felt the safest,” the former Miss Connecticut wrote.
