A suspected poacher has been arrested and charged in the death of a mother bear and her two cubs, whose bodies were found dumped on state land in Colorado.
Paul Stromberg, 52, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of killing the animal, which Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials found dumped on state trust land southeast of Salida.
Officials said they found the body late last month after receiving an anonymous tip about a poaching incident and checking social media posts.
It’s unclear what led Parks and Wildlife officials to suspect Stromberg in the animal’s death, but authorities say they found evidence the bear was shot on his property on Sept. 25 after executing a search warrant, according to Fox News.
Stromberg was booked into the Fremont County jail, but has since been released on a $10,000 bond.
He faces felony charges of destroying a large animal, and misdemeanor charges of hunting without a license, illegal possession of wildlife and unlawful wasting of game meat.
