Suzanne Somers Reportedly Turned Down Chemotherapy Before Death

Suzanne Somers reportedly breathed her last on her own terms.

The actress died on Sunday surrounded by her loved ones following a protracted battle with breast cancer. However, new details have emerged about how he managed the disease before his death.

Somers is best known for her role as Chrissy Snow in “Three’s Company” and has authored more than 24 books.

Chemotherapy Was Never An Option For Suzanne Somers

During his decades-long battle with cancer, Somers’ friends and family reportedly tried to convince him to consider more effective treatments, but were met with complete rejection.

“Suzanne chose not to do chemotherapy to treat her cancer and chose a more holistic approach,” a source revealed to the late actress. “He was advised by several people to consider a more conventional approach, but he didn’t listen.”

The source explained that the “Step By Step” alum always refused chemotherapy even during her first bout with cancer, and “her friends and loved ones urged her to reconsider many times during her cancer battle and at the end.”

An insider told the Daily Mail that the timing of the cancer recurrence may have contributed to Somers’ refusal to find out early in the summer and “not having a long time to really do anything but accept it.”

Nevertheless, the late actress was very confident in her decision and did not regret her decision to choose holistic treatment methods such as alternative medicine and bioidentical hormones.

“He never regretted his decision and he was ready to go. He believes that he’s living life beyond his wildest dreams and really making a dent in the world.”

The singer died a day before her 77th birthday and 23 years after she was first diagnosed with cancer in the arms of her 87-year-old husband, Alan Hamel. Fortunately, the actress was able to say goodbye to her loved ones just before she breathed her last.

“His passing was a blessing because his loved ones were there, and he was able to say goodbye to everyone he loved, which was a lot of people. He accepted his fate and left with dignity,” another source confirmed.

The ‘Step by Step” star has been married to Hamel for 46 years and they have been together for 55. The 87-year-old recalled his final days with Somers in an interview and said, “We were in bed together and his breathing was erratic, and I had been talking to him for hours. There was no answer except when I kissed him, he answered, and then about five o’clock in the morning, he was gone.”

After his death, his publicist R. Couri Hay, released a statement, sharing that his cancer recurred in the summer. He continued, “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. “

Somers announced her breast cancer news back on July 31 in an emotional Instagram post with a photo of herself and Hamel. “As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it comes back, and I keep it at bay. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me,” he wrote.

He expressed his confidence in beating the disease, adding, “I know how to wear my combat gear and I am a fighter. Alan was always by my side every step of the way. I can’t explain how much he has done for me. If possible, we are closer than ever.”

Hamel stayed by Somers’ side until the end and even gave him a very loving birthday present just before he left this world. The 87-year-old wrote a touching poem for his wife, which he read before she finally died peacefully in her sleep.

“My daily life consists of things and people I love and things and people I am indifferent to. I return to feelings… No words. No actions. No promises. No declarations,” the poem’s excerpt read. “In fact The green-shaded scholars of Oxford University Press have spent 150 years and still failed to come up with that one word. Earlier this year, Somers celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on her Instagram by sharing an adorable before-and-after photo of them with the caption: “Still smiling 55 years later ☺️ #TBT ?.”
