Taraji P. Henson has shared some new insights from her trip to Bali!
Apparently, the “Empire” actor’s month-long trip to Indonesia was born out of the need to spark joy in his life. He achieved that goal by enjoying the city’s natural surroundings and mediating, and he also chronicled the vacation through various posts shared with his social media fans.
Taraji P. Henson Quits Smoking & Drinking After Her Solo Retreat to Bali
If there’s one thing Henson never plays for, it’s his peace of mind and happiness. So when it looks like she’s not getting it from her seemingly glamorous life, she books a ticket to Bali for a while. The Oscar-nominated star spoke about his feelings after Sherri Shepherd asked if the trip was “spiritual.” In the words of the Black Reel Awards winner:
“I have been doing this for 20 odd years. Work, grind, whatever you want to call it. And I came up for air, and I hit a brick wall. I’m not happy anymore. I lost my sense of joy, my sense of joy. So, why am I doing all this?”
He later recounted talking to his girlfriend about his emotions, which is when he realized “a lot of people have felt this way.” “So, I decided to take control and find my joy again, that deep joy. No drinks. Without that beyond anything. So, I went alone. I didn’t take any friends,” Henson told Sherri.
Given the lengths to which he would go to find what was missing in his life, it makes sense that he engages in an activity that helps his mental health during the retreat. The “Four Brothers” star opened up about this move during a separate interview, where he explained:
“Breathing is the best. I didn’t fully understand breathing until I went to Bali because it’s a very spiritual place, and I do a lot of meditation. I’m talking about intentional breathing, where you stop, slow your thoughts, and breathe with intention. It’s the best medicine ever.”
The Blast further details that the 52-year-old gave up his habit of drinking alcohol and smoking weed in Bali, although it helped him overcome his anxiety. Since then, she has demonstrated her dedication to happiness by pairing her mental health foundation with a fashion house — Kate Spade New York — to create a new program.
The She Care Wellness Pods program aims to “reach over 25,000 Black women on HBCU campuses with front-line mental health care.” It was launched earlier this month.
PETA Advocate Gets Guest Starring On ‘Abbott Elementary’
MEGA
This month is off to a great start for “Abbott Elementary” viewers as they learn that Henson will be revealed as the mother of the show’s female lead, Janine Teagues — Vanetta. The episode, titled “Mom,” aired on April 12, following Teagues — played by Quinta Brunson — as her plans to enjoy a solo trip on Memorial Day are ruined by her mother’s unexpected arrival.
The older woman appeared to ask for her daughter’s help as she made a statement in figure-hugging trousers and a cropped fur coat, in contrast to her daughter, who was wearing a floral dress.
The “Streetwise” actress’ involvement with the multi-award-winning series was met with raves online when it was announced on April 1, with “Community” actress Yvette Nicole Brown tweeting, “Yassssssss! They look like siblings, but YASSSSSSSS!!!”
Singer and actor Thomas Sanders, who couldn’t find the right words for his emotions, typed, “Omgggggfdkxixusjdjxhcj.” “Dream come true,” said Hulu’s official Twitter handle, as this netizen showed off her game-playing skills, writing, “I’ll be a Fool for Taraji …April or not.”
However, The Blast notes that it’s not all fun as some people are concerned about the validity of the news. One person tweeted, “I would believe it, but since today is April fool’s day, I’m being careful.”
A second concerned viewer added, “No. Announce it again in the morning so we know you’re not trying to trick us for April Fools.” As you may know, the episode aired and earned multiple accolades from various rating systems — which is not a new feat for the Golden Globe Award-winning series.
