Actress Tatiana Maslany opens up about the end of the Disney+ Marvel series “She-Hulk” and possible alternate endings.
In addition to the “more serious” ending he filmed for the live-action series, Maslany revealed that there were “like 20 versions” of the ending that the writers discussed before they decided to have Jen Walters break the fourth wall.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Maslany opened up about the season finale, revealing that she and head writer Jessica Gao discussed “all kinds of different ways” they wanted the show to end.
“Jessica and I talk a lot about the ending because it can happen in so many different ways,” Maslany said. “Jess said that there were about 20 versions. I never saw 18 of those versions, but I saw two: the one we used and then the one we recorded before.
Maslany said that the alternate ending was “very different, a little more serious, and less like Jen’s version.” The alternate ending featured more She-Hulk and was reportedly “too expensive”, which is why it was scrapped. Maslany also said that the “serious” alternate ending has a “different strategy,” adding, “What I like about this one is that we’re back to Jen feeling like KEVIN’s collaborator and like an equal, and that she’s an idea worth respected. Even sitting on the ground and asking about the X-Men was like, ‘We’re friends now,’ you know what I mean? Something about that felt very Jen, and felt very funny.”
Tatiana Maslany ‘Excited’ With Meta’s Ending

The 37-year-old actress had nothing but positive things to say about the “She-Hulk” ending, adding that she was “thrilled” they were able to film it.
“I don’t believe we have to do it,” Maslany said. “Because it’s the kind of writing, it’s the kind of unraveling that I’m really excited about as an actor and as an audience member, and as a creative person. It’s the thing I’m most interested in. It was a very big moment and it required a very clear idea, because Jen was really telling the truth about herself.”
“It’s the moment when he says that things are not good enough, that this is not what he wants or deserves, and to name that, you have to know yourself well,” he continued. “So it took a while to find it, but Jess always had that idea and it was always going to destroy something and at the same time build something back up.”
The Canadian actress said that the scene where Jen breaks into Disney+ and actually walks into the writers’ room is her favorite part of the season. “It was a lot of fun,” he recalls. “We shot it at different points during the series, so it was with varying degrees of feeling relating to this show and finding the tone. It felt really good to walk through the Burbank Disney lot in my mo-cap suit like, ‘This is a character for a show. which was being written in that room.’ It’s really fun and meta.”

He also added that everything he said in the writers’ room was scripted and not improvised, as some fans initially speculated. “The only improvisational element was on the day, I think Jessica and Zeb [Wells]author, both launched [alternate lines] to me,” explained Maslany. “They’ll throw me an alt or we’ll try this alt or we’ll ask KEVIN this question.”
An alternate line that was written on the spot during filming was when he asked, “When are we going to get the X-Men?” while winking at the camera. “The X-Men question was one in the alt series where that was a successful question,” Maslany explained. “But I definitely don’t improvise. The only thing I think I improvised was sitting on the ground, but other than that, it was all Zeb and Jessica.”
