Actor Taylor Lautner finally spoke about that time Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Twilight” alum hosts a podcast called The Squeeze with his wife, Taylor Dome, whom he married last November.
While the pair discussed various issues, including body dysmorphia, Lautner also opened up about a viral pop culture incident that shocked the nation.

During a recent episode of the podcast, the 30-year-old actor reflected on the viral incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
During their conversation, Dome asked her husband which career moment he would choose to relive. She clearly didn’t think she’d remember the incident that happened some fourteen years ago, when the “Donda” rapper interrupted Swift’s “You Belong With Me” speech to declare that Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” music video was “one of the the best video of all time.”

Lautner and the “Anti-Hero” singer were only linked for a few months, between August and December 2009, but they happened to be dating at the time of the incident. To add insult to injury, Lautner was the one who presented Swift with the award on stage and stood behind her watching it all go down without intervening.
Fans may remember that, as Swift gave her speech, Kanye came up on stage, grabbed the microphone, and said, “Taylor, I’m so happy for you, I’ll let you finish. But Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time.”

At the time, Taylor Lautner, as well as many watching at home, thought that Kanye’s aggression was an act.
However, looking back, Lautner told his wife, “I didn’t realize the Kanye thing wasn’t a farce.” He explained that, from his perspective, he had just given Swift her award and stepped back to make room for her.

“In the middle of giving thanks, Kanye jumped on stage,” Lautner explained. “I can barely hear it. I can’t see them. I just assumed that these were all practiced and rehearsed skits. Because why else would Kanye West jump on stage, interrupting Taylor Swift? It doesn’t make sense.”
While many were focused on Ye and Taylor’s reactions, Lautner admitted that eagle-eyed fans could catch him laughing in the background.

“If you look back, I was actually caught, like, laughing, laughing at him,” he admitted. Lautner said he couldn’t actually hear the exchange, but he remembers thinking, “‘I can’t hear it, but this might be really funny right now.'”
Unfortunately, when his girlfriend turns around, he quickly discovers that the “skit” is real.
Lautner recalled, “He jumped, he was done… when he turned around and I saw his face for the first time, I was like, ‘Oh. No, that’s not good.'”

Later that night, Beyoncé won Video of the Year for “Single Woman,” and invited the “Lavender Haze” singer back onstage to finish her acceptance speech.
It was widely speculated that Swift’s song, “Innocent” was about her forgiving Ye for the incident; however, he never confirmed this directly.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in the “Twilight” franchise, admits to struggling with how he views his physical appearance.
“You have to get to a place where you realize that your physical appearance and your body doesn’t say anything about you as a person, because there’s another side as well,” Lautner explained.
“Because your body can be unbelievable, you can be ripped, shredded, whatever, you can lose weight, you can put on muscle, and if you’re not mentally healthy, then it’s all for nothing because it can affect you ,” he continued.

“There are two completely different sides, and I think that’s something I have to learn,” he said. “Because for so long, I told myself, if I get my body back to where I want it, then I’ll be happy again.”
Lautner went on to say that he mistakenly assumed that he would automatically be “very happy” when he achieved the physical shape he wanted.
