Taylor Swift Is Searchable On X Again After Shocking AI Deepfakes Of The Singer Went Viral

Singer Taylor Swift is finally searchable on X (formerly Twitter) after the star’s name was blocked on the platform after an AI-generated explicit image of her went viral.

The online hoax led to an online outcry from the singer’s fans, who denounced the people who shared the photos and reported the account en masse. Soon after, the account that shared the image was suspended.

Besides Swifties, several other prominent bodies, including the White House, have spoken out against AI deepfakes and called for regulation.

The social media platform took swift action against the “Out of the Woods” singer’s viral explicit image, even making her name unsearchable on the platform.

At the time, an attempt to search for Swift’s name on X produced an error message: “Something happened. Try reloading.”

Deepfakes use AI to create fake images or “undress” real photos. Swift’s Deepfakes graphic depicts her in sexually suggestive and compromising situations, which angers her fans.

After the singer’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, won the AFC Championship to earn a spot in this year’s Super Bowl, photos of the couple flooded the platform, with his name finally searchable again.

Elon Musk’s social media platform said, “Search has been re-enabled, and we will continue to be vigilant for any attempts to spread this content and will remove it if we find it.”

White House, Microsoft, And More Raise Concerns Over Deepfakes

After an explicit AI image went viral on social media, several organizations condemned the image and emphasized the need for AI regulation.

Responding to the shocking image, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “We are concerned by the reports of…the circulation of the image that you just presented – a fake image to be exact, and it is alarming.”

He added, “While social media companies make their own independent decisions about content management, we believe they have an important role to play in enforcing their own rules to prevent the spread of misinformation and non-consensual intimate imagery.”

According to reports, the creators of deepfakes use Microsoft tools. While the company has not commented on the matter, CEO Satya Nadella addressed the issue of Swift’s rough image.

He said, “I would say two things: One, again I go back to what I think is our responsibility, which is all the fences we need to put around technology so that there is more safe content being produced.”

Satya continued, “And there is much to be done and much to be done there. But it’s about global, societal – you know, I would say, convergence on certain norms. And we can do — especially when you have laws and law enforcement and a technology platform that can come together — I think we can govern a lot more than we think — we give ourselves credit for.”

SAG-AFTRA also spoke out against the disruptive use of AI deepfakes after images of Swift went viral, stating that they should be outlawed.

The organization said, “AI-generated sexual images depicting Taylor Swift are offensive, dangerous and deeply disturbing. The development and dissemination of false images — especially pornographic ones — without a person’s consent must be outlawed.”

Taylor Swift Left ‘Furious’ About AI Images

Although Swift has yet to publicly comment on the photo, a source close to the singer said: Daily Mail that he was “furious” and considering taking legal action.

They said, “Whether or not legal action will be taken is still being decided, but one thing is clear: these AI-generated fake images are abusive, offensive, exploitative and done without Taylor’s permission and/or knowledge.”

The source added, “Taylor’s family and friends are furious, and so are her fans, obviously. They have a right to be, and every woman should. The door needs to be closed for this. Legislation needs to be passed to prevent this and laws must be enacted.”

Amid the chaos of photos, Swift looked very happy as she cheered on her boyfriend Kelce on Sunday after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens for a spot in the 2024 Super Bowl.
