2016 was a pretty rough year for Taylor Swift.
The year of Pokemon Go and Kayne West’s blockbuster record “The Life Of Pablo” has been a time of personal reckoning for Swift.
The “Clean” singer suddenly found herself at the center of a tornadic narrative that she would later plead once again to be excluded from; West expressed his anger towards her in the lyrics of a song on the aforementioned album, and he soon became the target of a moment of internet irritation as a result.
A second public appearance involving West would soon impact her career as much as the first, (who can forget the infamous moment when she stormed the stage at the 2009 MTV VMAs?), and Swift would soon be inspired to create art as respond. .
‘Old Taylor’ Can’t Get On The Phone: She’s Busy Working On Her ‘Reputation’
For those who might need a reminder of the drama dominating Swift’s world at the time, she wasn’t too pleased with the way West portrayed her in “Famous,” a song in which he referred to her by name.
West called Swift an ab***h, and claimed to have made her famous.
A war of words soon erupted between West, Swift, and West’s now ex-wife Kim Kardashian. In defense of her husband who has maintained Swift had allowed him to release the track, Kardashian posted footage on her Snapchat of the phone call, which later proved to be edited, according to Vox.
Both Swift and her publicist would release separate statements, (Swift had written in the Notes app and later posted on her Instagram), to clarify she did not give West express permission to use her likeness as he did in the final lyrics of “Famous,” but instead to release the song via Swift’s Twitter. (via Vox)
Swift has “warned him about releasing a song with a misogynistic message” in reality.
Kardashian would go on to tweet, “Wait, it’s legit National Snake Day?!?! They have a holiday for everyone, I mean everyone today,” along with several snake emojis. (via Buzzfeed) after Swift posted her portion of the story.
‘Swifties’ may be aware that the snake-related online harassment Swift experienced as a result of Kardashian’s tweets will continue to play a role in the music video for her lead single from 2017’s “Reputation,” “Look What You Made Me Do.”
In the song’s lyrics, Swift sings, “The world moves on/another day, another drama, drama/but not for me, not for me/All I think about is karma.”
The subject of karma will then reappear in the Swiftie universe in a big way!
Karma Crawls Again!
The period of Swift’s life and career that her fans nicknamed “bleachella” will soon become a karmic fixture in Swiftie-lore.
Swifties have long been adamant about theories related to an unreleased album called “karma,” which has allegedly been recorded and is slated to be Swift’s sixth album.
According to a recent Rolling Stone piece, a theoretical component is the idea that “Karma” was “scrapped” following Swift’s breakup with ex West, and “Reputation” was written and recorded in its place.
The article also details the minutes in which Swift had mentioned her belief that “karma is real” in an interview with Vogue for their “73 Questions” segment; Swifties also believe this is a clue to the existence of the album.

The ‘karma’ train soon left the station again on social media this morning after Swift announced the name of the eleventh track on her upcoming tenth album, “Midnights.”
The Blast has come together to cover Swift’s exciting TikTok series where she has revealed the name of the song for “Midnights,” which was announced in late August, and will arrive on October 21.
In addition to continuing the component of the “Midnights Mayhem With Me” series where Swift reveals the name of the track while talking into the receiver of a retro-inspired phone, (sometimes the phone is upside down!!), Swift laughs and looks directly into the camera at the end of the TikTok.
The violence was unleashed on Twitter and in a subreddit dedicated to Swift after the TikTok went live!
Twitter user @likedaylight_ posted Swift-related footage of a popular meme featuring a little girl smiling at the camera while standing in front of a burning house.
“taylor swift announces track 11 called karma, and watch twitter stan go crazy,” the tweet read.
@niclxo_o tweeted“I still can’t get over the fact that when taylor swift announced that track 11 was called karma, she kept laughing at us like ‘ha ha ha sure you’re not mentally stable enough to let that sink in.”
