Swift Has A ‘Reputation’ For Political Engagement

Swift’s reminder of the midterm elections on her Instagram story isn’t her first political-related post, nor is it the first time she’s talked about politics.
Over the last half decade, society at large has changed a lot for a variety of reasons including but not limited to the global pandemic and the rise of many partisan political decisions made for the public, particularly in the United States, that affect women and groups minorities in general.
In the late 2010s Swift started talking about certain political situations for the first time. Some of those situations have a global impact, which will result in more ‘swiftie’ listening to his fans and getting a chance to relate or benefit from his words.
According to a piece from Billboard, one of the first instances of Swift speaking out politically had to do with the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day.
On March 23, Swift revealed on Instagram that she had made a donation to the March For Our Lives, which was organized and supported by students after the Parkland shooting.
He wrote, “I made the donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by this tragedy, and to support gun reform.
Swift will then begin publicly endorsing candidates for the mid-term elections in the state of Tennessee, which she also wrote about at length in an Instagram post (via Billboard ).
In the post, Swift spoke out against the actions of current senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, writing, “…I cannot support Marsha Blarkburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and appalls me,” and goes on to list several examples of human rights that Blackburn has opposed prior to Swift’s tenure.
The 2020 Netflix documentary about Swift, “Miss. Americana” features several examples of Swift discussing and reacting to political situations, including a heated discussion with her father about the possibility of alienating certain members of her fan base if she chooses to speak openly about politics.
He was also warned about possibly being on the receiving end of the wrath of then-President Donald Trump, who responded, “I don’t care.”

One thing Swift DOES NOT care about, however, is keeping her fan base up to date on important voting dates.
This morning he shared an Instagram story featuring a link for fans to find more information on voter registration!
His post revealed that “8.3 million new people have become eligible to vote since the last general election and 1 in 4 eligible voters are not registered to vote.”
Swift also wrote “There are only 49 midnights until the 2022 US Midterm elections on November 8th.”
