Swift, the newly named Time magazine’s Person of the Year, shared how much of an impact his feud with West and Kardashian has had on his career and well-being.

The singer, while referring to a 2016 spat between her and her ex-partner, stated that it felt like “career death” to be called a snake after denying ever agreeing to West singing about her with abusive lyrics in his song, “Famous.”

“You have a completely manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, that Kim Kardashian edited out and then told everyone I was a fraud,” Swift told the publication.

She continued, “It took me psychologically to a place I’d never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave my rented house for a year. I was afraid to make a phone call. I rejected most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone again. I fell so, so hard.

The backlash Swift received at the time led her to create her most rebellious album yet, “Reputation,” with lead single “Look What You Made Me Do,” which featured several snake references.

How the Fight Began

West has released a song titled “Famous,” which includes the controversial lyric, “I think Taylor and I might still have sex / I made b—- famous.”

These words prompted Swift to issue a statement through a representative, claiming that she never approved of West singing about her in such language.

The statement read, “Kanye did not ask for approval, but asked Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on his Twitter account. He refused and warned her about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never informed of the actual lyrics, ‘I made b—- famous.’”

The “Out of the Woods” singer continued to taunt West, referring to him as a “b—-” in the song during her acceptance speech for Album of the Year in 2016 for her record-breaking album, “1989,” at the Grammy Awards.

“I want to say to all the young women out there,” Swift stated at the time, “there will be people along the way who will try to undermine your success or take credit for your accomplishments, or your fame. But if you just focus on work, and you don’t let those people push you away, one day, when you get to where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know that it was you, and the people who love you, that put you there.

Following Swift’s speech at the Grammy’s, Kardashian said, in an interview with GQ Magazinethat the “Wildest Dreams” singer was aware that West had released “Famous” and that he also “approved the line.”

“He really knew that was going to come out. He wanted to act out of the blue like it wasn’t. [She] totally approve of that [line in the song about Swift]. I swear, my husband got so much s— for something [when] she really did the proper protocol and even called to get approval,” Kardashian said at the time, per Sugar Pops.

He continued, “What rapper would call a girl that he’s rapping lines for approval? [She] really give okay. Rick Rubin was there. So many respected people in the music business listened to it [conversation] and know I mean, he calls me ab—- in a song. That’s just, like, what they say. I never thought, [gasping] ‘Insulting words! How dare he?’ Not in a million years. I don’t know why he, you know, turned upside down all of a sudden.”

The SKIMS co-founder claimed that Swift said she would make it clear on the Grammy Awards red carpet that she was “following him the whole time.”
