Taylor Swift Warns Fans Not To Bully Ex John Mayer During ‘Dear John’ Performance

Singer Taylor Swift warned her fans not to bully her ex-boyfriend, John Mayer, ahead of the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).

The two musicians dated briefly between 2009 and 2010, when he was 32 and she was 19. Their relationship apparently inspired the song “Dear John” from his third studio album, Speak Now, released in October 2010.

The song inspired the famous lyrics:

“Dear John, I see it’s all wrong now / Don’t you think nineteen is too young / To be played by your dark twisted games, when I love you so much? / I should know.

After releasing Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, Swift is now set to release her next remix album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) next month.

However, she has already warned her fans, known as Swifties, not to bully her ex-boyfriend when “Dear John (Taylor Version)” finally drops.

“I am 33 years old. I don’t care what happened to me when I was 19,” he told the crowd. “I didn’t put this album out so you could go on the Internet and defend me against somebody who you think I wrote a song about somebody 14 million years ago.”

As The Blast previously reported, a Swiftie apologized to John Mayer after he started sending her death threats in November 2021.

“f— yourself you ugly b—- I hope you choke on something <3,” said a user named Alondra in a DM they sent to the musician on Instagram, adding, “answer me you b—-.”

Obviously he didn’t expect Mayer to reply; however, Mayer revealed that she received “a lot of messages” after Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version).

“Hi Alondra, this is John. I have received so many messages like this over the past few days. I decided to randomly select your message to reply to. You can feel free to screenshot, share in any way you like if you want,” he wrote. “I’m not disappointed, I just have a curious mind and am driven to ask. Do you really wish me dead?”

A shocked Swiftie replied “OMG WHAT I don’t want you to DIE.” A screenshot of their conversation shows that he left a 30-second voice clip along with his apology.

“Nevermind. I want to understand,” he answered. “So it’s a fun thing that people do without considering that I might see it and be affected by it?”

Alondra said that she thought no one would see the message “or reply because you’re famous and not interacting with random people. again, so sorry!!”

Mayer assured her it was “100 percent fine” and wished her luck, but Swiftie couldn’t help but warn her about the reaction to “Dear John (Taylor’s Version), replying, “people will probably be 1000x meaner when talking now the taylor version is out so take care.”

Jake Gyllenhaal Encourages Taylor Swift To Take Responsibility For Her Fans

Jake Gyllenhaal worked as a lifeguard before he became an actorMEGA

In February 2022, “Donnie Darko” actor Jake Gyllenhaal encouraged Swift to take responsibility for what her fans say. The couple’s brief relationship is said to have inspired the original, ten-minute version of “All Too Well,” which was also made into a short film.

At the time, the actor told Esquire, “At some point, I think it’s important when fans get out of control that we feel a responsibility to keep them civil and not allow cyberbullying in someone’s name.”

He pointed out that his comments were “not about any individual, per se,” but stressed that it was “a conversation that allows us to examine how we can – or should, even – be responsible for what we give to the world, our contribution to the world.”

During the interview, the “Nightcrawler” actor insisted that Swift’s song had nothing to do with him.

“It has nothing to do with me,” he said. “It’s about his relationship with his fans. It was his expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t let anyone down.”

Taylor Swift is now single after ending her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. She was then linked to 1975 singer Matty Healy in May 2023.
