The late Foo Fighters drummer tragically passed away on March 25 this year, aged just 50.

Hawkins, who was a founding member of the group, left his mark on the music industry in a remarkable way; countless musicians paid tribute to the beloved rocker after news of his passing.

Now, five months later, many big names have gathered at Wimbley Stadium in London today to honor his memory! According to Pitchfork, Hawkins’ surviving Foo Fighters bandmate organized the show.

Flashback to Hawkins’ Sudden Death

Hawkins’ death was announced on Twitter via the official Foo Fighters account.

The band’s statement read, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His infectious spirit of music and laughter will live with us all forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with respect during this unimaginably difficult time.”

Hawkins died in Columbia, ahead of a scheduled Foo Fighters performance at the Estero Picnic music festival, according to Newsweek.

No official cause of death has been reported for the drummer, according to the BBC. According to one of The Blast’s reports in our coverage of Hawkins’ death, it was previously reported that Hawkins had died of a drug overdose before subsequent reports came out, revealing Hawkins had an enlarged heart.

The Daily Mail reports forensic experts found Hawkins’ heart weighed “at least 600 grams.” (per The Blast)

The average human heart is said to weigh about 300 to 350 grams.

Foo Fighters canceled all of their remaining tour dates following his death. The group also did not perform at the Grammys, but Hawkins was honored at the ceremony. Billie Eilish also dedicated her performance at the event to Hawkins. (per The Blast)

Several celebrities have also paid tribute to Hawkins in concert, including Miley Cyrus, Liam Gallagher, and Elton John.

Foo Fighters Announce Tribute Concert In Honor Of Hawkins

The band’s Twitter account shared a poster featuring a bunch of bands and artists signed up to appear, including Gallagher!

Notable artists featured on the poster for September 3 include Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, Mark Ronson, Joshua Homme, Stewart Copeland, surviving Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Wolfgang Van Halen, and more ! (via The Blast)

Comedian Dave Chappelle is also scheduled to appear.

A subsequent tweet from the band read, “The Taylor Hawkins tribute concert will benefit a charity in the UK chosen by the Hawkins family. Recipients and further details will be announced soon.”

Fans gathered to discuss the moving six-hour tribute concert.

Fictional Twitter user @blissfull attended the show and shared her experience with the photo set.

Their tweet read, “I’ve never cried, screamed, sung or felt anything so loud or so much in my life. I hope Taylor hears us there. It’s one for the books. She won’t believe it’s all for her . Miss you forever. We love you T.”

Many other users gathered to admire Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane’s drumming skills as he joined the band for a performance of “My Hero.”
