In her latest Instagram post, a carousel of photos including selfies and screenshots of some of the bullying comments Mellencamp has received, the reality star and podcast host told people who made the ignorant comments that she wants to hold them accountable for their actions.

“I love using social media to share my life, my family, my struggles… but also my sense of humor, my personality, a 360 view of who I am,” she began her caption. “What I don’t understand is the need to leave negative comments attacking my face, my body, my person. I know we’re told to just ignore it, but why should we? Why shouldn’t we hold these people accountable for saying things they wouldn’t say to someone in person. Things they don’t want to say to them or their mother, daughter, or sister.”

Mellencamp also recently shared a family photo with a caption that talked about anxiety awareness. “Here’s the thing about anxiety: you can show the world a smile, but still struggle inside. There are days when it sits there, gnawing at you, waiting to be released, controlling your mind. And there are days when it’s off and you feel amazing,” he wrote.

“Since my melanoma, they’ve thrown off my hormones, and my sleep and anxiety have gotten worse. A placebo effect? I’m not sure. That’s why I’m asking all the women out there who have the same struggle— how has your year been so far? Being vulnerable about these things and reminding myself that I’m not alone in this always tends to help. We’re better together.”

One of his followers thanked him for talking about a topic that isn’t often discussed publicly. “Thank you for being open about this. If we normalize mental health anxiety and awareness, the world will be a better place. Mental health education and acceptance will create a huge, collective, healing outpouring.
