A 19-year-old Wisconsin woman died on New Year’s Eve after she crashed while driving four friends home — then was hit by a friend in another car and dragged at least three miles, authorities said.
The victim, identified by her family as Taya Grimes, was thrown onto US Highway 45 around 1 a.m. when her car hit a culvert and rolled several times, officials told Fox 6 Now about the suspected drunken accident.
At least three of its four passengers, between the ages of 16 and 21, were also thrown from the car, the report said.
One of them, a 17-year-old boy, was seriously injured.
After being thrown onto the road, Grimes was struck by a car driven by a 19-year-old friend who was traveling with them — and who continued driving for several miles, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies using thermal imaging equipment eventually found her body about three miles from the original scene — still attached to the second vehicle that hit her, the report said.

Grimes’ mother told Fox 6 Now that she is going through “suffering that I would never wish on anyone.”
Investigators told local channels that alcohol is believed to have played a role in the fatal crash.
The second driver, identified only as a 19-year-old man from West Bend, was later arrested on charges of hit-and-run causing death for allegedly leaving the scene before deputies arrived.

Grimes’ sister, Tj Grimes, has launched an online fundraiser to help her family pay for the young woman’s funeral and cremation.
“Taya brings light to people’s darkest days with her cheerful personality and sense of humor,” the sister wrote. “He loves car scenes, sunsets, and hanging out with his friends.”
