Teen girl killed in horrific boat collision during Australian holiday: ‘Beautiful soul’

A teenage girl killed when two small aluminum boats collided south of Sydney on Australia Day will be remembered as a “beautiful soul” by friends and family.

Paramedics were called to Grays Point boat ramp, about 30km (18.6 miles) south of the Sydney CBD, about 10.30am on Friday following reports of a 16-year-old girl seriously injured in a crash involving two boats.

Bystanders pulled Darcy Davey-Sutherland, 16, from the water before the Toll Ambulance rescue helicopter rushed doctors and critical care paramedics to her aid.

He was taken in a critical condition to St George’s Hospital, where he later died.

Her father, Michael Davey-Sutherland, told Nine News his daughter was “so full of life and love,” and was a “beacon of light in our family” in the UK and Australia.

Mr Davey-Sutherland said “it was impossible to fathom life without him”.

“She will begin the most special part of her life as she steps into adulthood,” he said.

“Words cannot describe the pain we feel at this moment.”

A GoFundMe page set up to help Davey-Sutherland’s family has seen more than $26,300 raised in 24 hours.

Friends and family have shared how saddened they are by the 16-year-old’s death in tributes posted online.

“Will forever love you. You will forever be missed my beautiful angel, I will never forget our time together,” said a friend.

“I’m going to miss you so much Darc, I feel like I’ve lost a part of myself,” said another.

Ms Davey-Sutherland was wearing a life jacket at the time of the crash.

It is understood that members of the public found him face down in the water and performed CPR on the teenager until paramedics arrived.

NSW Police have since seized the two minnows for examination and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been launched.

Following the accident, two 16-year-old boys were also taken to the same hospital for mandatory tests.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
