Las Vegas’ wildly popular ‘When We Were Young’ festival began answering music festival goers’ prayers for an ’emotional weekend, celebrating the emo and alternative music of their youth; many of the biggest names in 2000s-era alternative music lined up the inaugural When We Were Young festival last October, and this year’s festival looks to be no different!

Last year’s festivities will soon be a distant memory; keep reading for the scoop on this year’s When We Were Young festival!
How Did Fans React When The ‘When Were Young’ Festival Was First Announced?
The Blast’s coverage of last year’s festival included a little history of the festival’s beginnings!
When the festival was initially announced in January last year, and fans first caught a glimpse of the line-up, many flocked to social media to chatter about the legitimacy of the festival; the lineup of music megastars and beloved bands of the ’emo’ era seems too good to be true!
In a piece from Vice, the organizers of the When We Were Young festival, Live Nation, stepped forward to confirm that the festival is indeed true and added that “Great artists take time and care to work with. Thankfully we have a lot of history with these artists and the team they trust our vision with this.” (via The Blast)
Giant Live Nation’s role in the festival didn’t sit well with some fans; we examined the connection further in our coverage from last January.
Travis Scott’s Astroworld 2021 concert, which would later be remembered for the tragic death caused by a surge of 50,000 people, was broadcast by Live Nation. 10 people will lose their lives and another 300 will be injured at Astroworld.
The two festivals came up in the social media conversation after the initial announcement of When We Were Young.
“I’ll be totally with you guys,” a concerned fan would tweet, “after the whole astroworld thing a few months ago I thought putting so many bands with such a large fan base in one place for one day seemed like a very questionable idea. . “
“Y’all are ready to forget Live Nation is responsible for the many deaths at Astroworld because they put together an all-star festival of screamo revivalists,” said another Twitter user.
“Not Live Nation trying to use the alt scene to pay off their lawyers after astroworld,” tweeted another with a laughing emoji.
