According to recent reports, HBO’s “The Idol,” starring Grammy award-winning singer The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, may not be returning for a second season.
The news comes after the first two episodes of the show received severe backlash for its graphic depiction of sex and numerous nude scenes featuring the main character Jocelyn, played by Depp.

The series, starring the “Can’t Feel My Face” singer and Lily-Rose Depp, has been mired in controversy and scandal even before it was officially available for streaming.
Resources shared with Page Six that “This was never meant to be a long-running show, it was always … a limited series.”
They also claimed that HBO was not surprised by the kind of reaction “The Idol” received because of its extremely graphic sex scenes. “It’s a Sam Levinson show, and you know what you get with a Sam Levinson show,” the source said, referring to the director, Levinson, who also directed the hit series, “Euphoria.”

Depp shared in a recent interview that he avoids his co-star, The Weeknd, whenever he fully immerses himself in the character he plays on “The Idol.”
While talking to Entertainment Weeklythe actor opened up about his budding relationship with the “I Feel It Coming Singer,” who played a cult leader on the controversial show.
“I don’t think anyone is completely methodical — nobody’s out of their mind,” Depp told the publication. “Well, sometimes when Abel will get — I don’t want to reveal too much about where Abel’s character goes, but when he’s in full Tedros mode sometimes, I’ll avoid him. I’d say, ‘He’s in his zone right now.”
The 24-year-old actor noted that the mood on set is usually “light” and that this helps the cast manage the emotional and heavy nature of the series.
She shared, “We laugh a lot, listen to a lot of music and dance, and it’s that kind of energy that makes the tougher moments easier and possible.”

After the second episode of “The Idol,” titled “Double Fantasy,” aired, The Weeknd was slammed online for his highly graphic sex scenes with his co-star, Deep.
In the raunchy episode, Terdos, played by The Weeknd, is seen uttering highly abusive words to Depp’s character, Jocelyn, while she masturbates.
While Speaking at the scene with GQ Magazine, the musician said he didn’t feel anything about it was “sex.” However, he said that some viewers will feel “embarrassed” when watching the scene.
“It’s all these emotions that add up to: This guy is in over his head, this situation is a situation where he shouldn’t be here,” The Weeknd said, explaining how the scene was meant to highlight his troubled character, Terdos.
