They draped blankets and coats over concertina wire to make their way through the sharp barbed wire, then climbed up, to be met by state and federal agents who escorted them to the holding area for processing.

The staggering number comes after nearly 2.5 million people were caught illegally crossing the border in fiscal year 2023 – a record-breaking number – along with an estimated 670,000 “tourists” who evaded authorities last year.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Saturday blasted the administration’s announcement of the November total, calling it “an attempt to bury the news during the holidays.”
