A 2-year-old child died after an apparent medical emergency at the Massachusetts home of a disgraced police lieutenant and adoptive father — who was jailed on child rape charges, according to reports.
The girl’s mother called 911 on Friday after finding the child unresponsive in Winthrop, about 20 minutes west of Boston.
Without an ambulance immediately available, Fire Chief Scott Wiley took the child in the back of his SUV to Massachusetts General Hospital while two EMTs rendered aid, NBC10 Boston reported.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation showed no signs of foul play or physical trauma, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office said in a statement Friday.
The child was found at the home of former Winthrop Police Lt. James Feeley, who was arrested in December, preliminary reports stated.
The girl’s identity has not been released and authorities have not commented on any connection between Feeley and the child.

Feeley, who is a foster parent with the state Department of Children and Families, is charged with rape, indecent assault and battery of a child under 12, according to reports.
He reportedly confessed, but pleaded not guilty at a Dec. 27 hearing.
A preliminary investigation showed the toddler who died had been sick recently, CBS reported.
“Any event like this is very tragic for the family, as well as for the first responders,” Delehanty said, according to WCVB.

“The firefighters did a heroic job today and made the decisive decision in an emergency to get this child the medical attention they needed as quickly as possible, and we thank them for their service,” Winthrop Police Chief Terance Delehanty told reporters.
Feeley admitted that he had sexually assaulted the child several times, with the abuse beginning about a year ago, according to the complaint.
Delehanty said Feeley, who was previously on administrative leave, is no longer employed by the department.
