Hanks is currently writing his debut novel, “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.” The literary work will be released to the public in May 2023 and will focus on the film industry and how film masterpieces are put together.
The star “Elvis” joined him People’s Magazine to promote the book and, in the process, reveal his “pretty good” movie count. “Nobody knows how movies are made — even though everyone thinks they do,” Hanks said. “I’ve made a lot of movies, and four of them are pretty good, I think, and I’m still amazed at how the movies come together. From the flicker of an idea to the image flashing on the screen, the whole process is a miracle.”

He Didn’t Want to Star in ‘Elvis’

Hanks’ most recent film credit is his role in the Baz Luhrmann biopic “Elvis” alongside Austin Butler. The actor plays Colonel Tom Parker, the famous manager of the King of Rock and Roll. In a previous interview with Many people, Hanks revealed that he initially did not want to play the role; however, Luhrmann convinced him.
“I’m not interested in playing a bad guy just for the sake of, ‘Before I kill you, Mr. Bond, maybe you want to visit my installation.’ That’s OK, I understand, but that’s for another thing,” Hanks said.
At the time, the 66-year-old revealed that he didn’t really know what Parker looked like, so when the director described the character as a carnival worker or “great carney,” he was intrigued.
The actor explained, “Carney’s job is to take people to the glittering lights of the countryside, promise them something they’ve never experienced before, and then, almost give it to them, at a cost. When he said that, I said, ‘I’m your man — now, please show me the picture.'”
After seeing the picture, the actress revealed that she regretted her earlier decision as she realized she needed to enlist the help of the makeup team. “When he showed me the picture of the Colonel, I thought, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’” recalls Hanks.

Hanks is currently writing his first novel, “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece,” which will be released on May 9, 2023. The work of fiction will reportedly focus on the production of a “colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action movie and modest comic book that inspired him.”
The book, according to Hanks, was inspired by his life in Hollywood and the experiences that came with it. Each character in the novel is reportedly rooted in what the 66-year-old has discovered during his decades-long filmmaking career.

The actor explained, “Sources for a film can go back years like in history. A story brings to life a moment in someone’s life, then all the anecdotes of today magnify that moment. Going back to 1947 makes sense, as would starting in, say , 1559. Human longing has proved eternal.”
The characters in the novel include an “extremely difficult” male actor as well as a leading lady who Hanks describes as “amazing.” The rest include “eccentric” directors trying to make big-budget movies out of comic books, producers, production assistants and other crew members.
