Although the charming star prefers to avoid social media, she recently decided to share her journey and shed light on the importance of psychological health.

Following a quick transition from blockbusters like the Spider-Man franchise to “Uncharted,” the 26-year-old is ready to take a break until another opportunity comes his way.

After searching for a long time to play a role in a legal drama, his wish finally came true when the famous writer Akiva Goldsman presented the concept of a gripping psychological thriller. The idea later turned into a charming 10-episode suspense drama titled “The Crowded Room,” which Holland signed on to star in and executive produce.

Talk with EW, the award-winning actor acknowledged his familiarity with the physical demands of action-oriented films before openly reflecting on the mental toll the project took. “The mental aspect, it beat me, and it took me a long time to recover after that, to come back to reality,” he admitted.

The three-time Saturn Award winner revealed that after nine months of filming, she struggled to separate herself from the character. It affected his personal life until he finally had a crisis and almost shaved his head.

Fortunately, he finds solace in the presence of his fellow actors, especially Sasha Lane, who plays his friend and roommate in the series. Recalling their collaboration, she says, “He would take me aside and be open and willing to share some of his experiences that were very helpful at this time.”

Having embarked on a journey of sobriety for over a year, Holland credits its role in helping her look at her mental health differently and recognize stress triggers like social media. He stated that he hoped viewers of the show would “have more respect and more sympathy for people with mental health issues,” adding:

“I hope people will feel educated about the power of mental health, struggle, [and] our extraordinary ability to survive.”

Last August, after temporarily deleting her Instagram account, the Broadway actress briefly returned to explain why she decided not to use the app for short videos. Describing how it took him over an hour to create the three-minute clip, the English actor noted that he finds platforms like Twitter and Instagram to be “quite exciting and stimulating.”

After realizing how badly she would spin or become engrossed when reading about herself, she decided to “take a step back and delete the app.” The “In the Heart of the Sea” star took the opportunity to highlight the Stem4 app, which is run by her organization, The Brothers Trust, which is dedicated to supporting and promoting positive mental health.
