Treat Williams Died On June 12, Aged 71

On June 12, the tragic news that 71-year-old Treat Williams died in a motorcycle accident hit fans and followers alike with an impact.
The crash happened that afternoon on Route 30 by Long Trail Auto near Dorset, Vermont. At the time of the incident, a car collided, turned left out of the parking lot, and turned into the path of the actor’s motorcycle. Williams was unable to avoid the collision and was thrown from his motorcycle, tragically sustaining critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead. At the time, Williams, a motorcycle enthusiast, rode a classic Honda VT600c Shadow and even wore a helmet. The driver was in the Honda as well, and was wearing a seat belt as well.
Vermont State Police have released a full statement on the case, which reads, “The Office of the Medical Examiner in New York determined that Mr. Williams died of blunt force trauma and blood loss as a result of the accident.”
Williams’ agent Barry McPherson shared the news of the star’s death on June 12, saying, “He was killed this afternoon. He makes left or right [and] a car cuts him off. I’m just devastated. He is the nicest man. He is very talented.” He also talked about how Williams was excited about a new project, something he’s never seen before.
Car Driver Has Been Charged With “Reckless Driving”

After completing their review of the June 12 crash on Tuesday, the Bennington County State’s Attorney’s office charged the driver, identified as Ryan M. Koss, 35, with “grossly negligent operation with death.”
The information came via a press release from the Vermont State Police, which also stated that police contacted Koss on Tuesday afternoon. The statement read, “he voluntarily met with soldiers at Shaftsbury Barracks, where he was processed on the charge and released.”
The statement also read that Koss will appear for trial on September 25, 2023, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Bennington. His vehicle, a Honda Element, suffered severe front-end damage although according to reports, road conditions that day were described as “dry blacktop with no debris or defects.”

When Williams isn’t acting or hanging out with his family on his farm, he enjoys tinkering with classic and vintage vehicles. Although the motorcycle he rides is a 1986 Honda, Williams also has a 1950s Chevy Apache truck and an early 1970s Oldsmobile.
Matt Bomer, who played Williams’ son on the series “White Collar” posted a touching tribute, “This is a tough one, and I hate to do this on social media, but I want to share what an absolute treasure Treat Williams is- as an actor and a person. I was very honored that he agreed to play my father in White Collar, and he jumped in and made every day on the set a joy. He taught me in the most beautiful way- through patient example. He’s one of the few actors I’ve worked with who has always looked out for me – even years after we worked together.”
Taylor Kinney, who co-starred with Williams in “Chicago Fire” said, “I will always enjoy our conversations and his incredible ability to light up a room. We all send love, he will be missed.”
Several of Williams’ other co-stars over the years also posted tributes on social media, talking about how special he was, and how much he will be missed. Veteran actor Tom Selleck also sent a tribute to Williams.
