Trump admits that being booked in jail was a ‘terrible experience’

Former President Donald Trump admitted that being booked into Georgia’s infamous Fulton County Jail was a “terrible experience” – and claimed he had “never heard the word mugshot” until he was taken.

Trump became the first current or former US president to have his picture taken when he was indicted Thursday night on charges of illegally trying to overturn the results of Georgia’s 2020 election.

When asked later by Newsmax host Greg Kelly what it was like inside the filthy prison, the 77-year-old replied: “Horrible experience.”

He added: “I went in, I was treated very well – but that’s what happened. I took a mugshot. I’d never heard the word mugshot. They didn’t teach me that at the Wharton School of Finance.”

Trump, who graduated from the Pennsylvania school in 1968, also called his reservation “a very sad experience” and “a very sad day for our country.”

“I went through an experience I never thought I would have to go through, but then I went through the same experience three more times,” he said on “The Greg Kelly Report.”

“For the rest of my life, I know nothing about allegations. And now I’ve been impeached, like, four times,” continued Trump, the GOP front-runner in the 2024 presidential election.

“It was like one thing after the next. What they want to do is they want to try and wear you down, which they won’t do … It’s just a horrible thing they do,” he said.

“And I’ve never seen anything like it. This is a Third World country,” Trump added.

The 45th president spent about 20 minutes in a crumbling correctional facility following his Aug. 14 grand jury indictment on 13 charges, including racketeering, conspiracy, making false statements and soliciting public officials to violate their oath of office.

He was released on $200,000 bond and agreed to an order limiting his ability to post on social media about witnesses or co-defendants in the case, which involves 18 other associates and supporters, including attorneys Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis and Kenneth Chesebro.

Trump then shared his steely-eyed, frowning mug on X — the first time he’s posted on the website formerly known as Twitter since two days after the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021.

Along with the booking photo, which instantly went viral and spawned countless memes, he added a link to his 2024 presidential campaign website.

Trump captioned the image: “Election interference” and “Never give up!”

He was also interviewed on Fox News Digital, where he said having his mugshot taken was “not a comfortable feeling — especially when you’ve done nothing wrong.”

“They insisted on doing a mugshot and I agreed to do it,” he added.

Earlier this month, Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba said the decision to take his mugshot was “a bit of an ego trip” on the part of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

All 19 defendants were charged with violating the Peach State’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), a version of the US law that Giuliani used as a federal prosecutor in the 1980s to bring down members of the gang.

Trump emphatically insisted they “did nothing wrong.”

The Georgia indictment is the fourth brought against him so far this year, following a federal case over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Washington, DC, and his alleged mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg also accused Trump of allegedly falsifying business records to hide secret payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
