The official portrait of former President Donald Trump sent social media reeling late Thursday and early Friday, as liberal users mocked the arrest of the 2024 Republican front-runner and conservative groups rallied around the former commander-in-chief.
Trump was booked into Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail on Thursday afternoon, receiving the label of inmate No. PO1135809 before he was fingerprinted and had his mug shot taken.
The 77-year-old scowled at the camera while wearing a blue suit and bright red tie.
Soon, hashtags like #TrumpMugshot and #OrangeIsTheNewOrange started trending on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Some users poked fun at prison records that reported Trump weighed 215 pounds and had “blonde or strawberry” hair, with one meme showing Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama laughing at the former president’s self-reported dimensions.
Others photoshopped President Biden behind Trump and sniffed the former president.

One X user called Trump’s arrest “revenge” as they celebrated his arrest.
Hours before the screenshot was released, the X was buzzing in anticipation of the image, with several users sharing memes showing them watching several different screens waiting for the image to be revealed.
After the photo was released, social media users compared his facial expression to Ben Stiller’s smoldering look in “Zoolander” as well as the famous Kubrick Stare — when characters in Stanley Kubrick’s films stare directly into the camera to signify the height of their confusion.
Several users appeared to celebrate the image’s release, with one user sharing a meme showing Trump with glowing red eyes and the word “Retribution.”
Some even joked that the mugshot was an official Trump White House portrait, Photoshopped by White House employees who hung it in the executive residence.
On TikTok, a video showing Nickelback holding a photo shoot while singing “Look at this picture, every time I do it makes me laugh” has garnered more than 797,800 views, with more than 115,000 likes and 25,000 shares.

Trump himself also shared a mugshot, after being released on $200,000 bond, writing, “Election interference. Never give up,” with a link to his campaign website.
It marked the first time he had been on the platform since January 8, 2021, when he was suspended for more than two years following the Capitol riots two days earlier. His account was later reinstated by new Twitter boss Elon Musk.
On Thursday, Trump posted a mugshot meme to his Truth Social platform, showing him surrounded by people pointing guns at his face and head.
Each weapon is emblazoned with words representing those he considers his enemies, including “Soros,” “pedophiles,” “Democrats,” “globalists,” “fake news,” and “FBI.”
The frame around the image read: “NEVER GIVE UP! WE UNITE WITH TRUMP!”
Conservative Trump supporters turned the photo into a rallying cry.
Now, some who support the former president have turned the mugshot into a rallying cry.
“I stand with President Trump against commie DA Fani Willis who is nothing more than a political assassin tasked with taking out Biden’s primary political opponent. ‘Persecution, not prosecution,’” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted with the hashtag #MAGAMugshot.
Candace Owens also said she thought she would feel angry and give up on the Trump photo.
“Surprisingly, it’s very rock ‘n roll,” he tweeted on Friday. “Feels like the vintage tee I need.”

Trump’s campaign is now capitalizing on the viral image — hawking T-shirts and other merchandise featuring his booking photo.
A new line of mugshot-inspired gear appeared on Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign site Thursday night. It includes T-shirts and long sleeves for $34, coffee mugs for $25 and beer Koozies for $15.
The tagline below the shot of the official MAGA gear states “NEVER GIVE UP!” in all cases, despite the fact that Trump actually surrendered.
“Today, at the notoriously violent jail in Fulton County, Georgia, I was ARRESTED for committing no CRIME,” Trump wrote in a message that appeared on the site’s landing page.
“…Today, I enter the lion’s den with one simple message on behalf of our entire movement: I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON OUR MISSION TO SAVE AMERICA.”
