After winning her last fight, Amanda Nunes retired from the UFC. Long-time rival, Julianna Peña, spoke about his retirement, calling him a coward.
“There are unfinished business and listen, the reality is Amanda has retired. He’s had a great career, but let’s call a spade a spade. He’s a coward. From the very beginning, the UFC told me that he didn’t want to fight me and that’s why it took so long for them to do the trilogy,” Peña told TMZ Sports.
The 33-year-old defeated Nunes at UFC 269 in December 2021, which was their first fight. After this victory, Peña captured Nunes’ bantamweight title. The two women rematched at UFC 277 in July 2022, which Nunes won by unanimous decision. A third fight was scheduled, however, Peña had to pull out after suffering a serious rib injury.
