Ukraine launched drone strikes on Moscow and the border region of Belgorod, causing at least four Russian airports to be temporarily closed Saturday.
The attack came a day after Ukraine launched an airstrike on a military base in Crimea.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said an air defense system shot down the drone over the Istra district, about 30 miles west of the Kremlin, early Saturday.
Russia claimed it intercepted two more drones late Saturday in the Belgorod region, as Ukraine stepped up its cross-border attacks.
Six people were wounded by gunfire in the border town as well, Moscow said.
The attack temporarily halted flights at three major airports serving the capital, as well as one near Belgorod.
The attempted attack follows one of the largest coordinated airstrikes in Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine’s GUR military intelligence agency confirmed a drone struck a Russian military base in Crimea on Friday, where residents reported deaths and explosions.

Russia, however, maintains its air defense system shot down all 42 drones that attacked Crimea before they hit their targets.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley said Ukrainian counterattacks had penetrated the front line of Russian defenses and liberated part of Russian-occupied territory.
Milley on Friday called the progress of the counterattack “bloody, long, and slow,” in an interview with Al-Mamlaka.
