The University of Wisconsin chancellor who was fired for filming an X-rated movie with his wife and sharing adult content online said they have lost friends and been forced to have difficult conversations with relatives since the scandal broke.
UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow, 63, was suspended in December after it was revealed he and his wife, Carmen Wilson, 56, were living a double life as porn stars.
In a video on their “Sexy Healthy Cooking” YouTube channel, the pair cook a vegan meal with a famous adult movie star before viewers are directed to other websites, such as OnlyFans, to view explicit content.
Gow and Wilson, described on their website as “a plant-based power couple who are passionate about cooking, talking and filming incredible sex scenes with top adult stars,” suspected someone recognized them and alerted the university, they told The Times UK.

“We were really surprised at how fast it was [the videos] became popular, and got over a million views,” Wilson, a former psychology professor, told the paper.
Wilson admitted it was “a bit weird” keeping the big secret – the couple had only made videos as a hobby since they married in 2014 before sharing their first video online two months ago.
“I wouldn’t say I’m happy that it was released,” Wilson admitted. “The family’s reaction is a challenge. I called my mom and she wasn’t very excited, so it wasn’t easy.”

For her husband, whose actions were described by his former employer as “disgusting”, there was a marked change in the way he was treated.
Two days before the story broke, their local newspaper was going to name Gow “person of the year,” but quickly scrapped the article to write about him being fired, he said.
“It’s interesting — before I was someone you admired and now I’m someone you despise, it’s incredible,” he told The Times UK. “Some people we talk to are curious and others are like ‘I’m not talking to you anymore.’ It’s sad to see some people leave us. We have lost a friend.”

Gow, who held the role for 17 years, insisted he never mentioned his job in the video, which he and his wife said they created in their spare time and on vacation.
Despite the backlash from many, the porn industry has welcomed the couple with open arms, they said.
“People in the industry have reached out to us to invite us to work with them, so that’s really refreshing,” Wilson told the news outlet.

The pair, who have co-written several books under pseudonyms about working in the porn industry, are considering future opportunities in the field.
They also say they hope their stories inspire topics to be discussed more freely on college campuses.
“We have learned a lot through this experience which is very interesting to discuss in class,” said Gow. “I would really like to talk to other universities that have an open mind about this.

“Most college students look at pornography so shouldn’t we be talking about it? When everyone calms down, I hope they will understand this is a very interesting, valid and important area of future study,” Gow continued to The Times UK.
“I think in time people will see that’s a great academic direction to go.”
