The Las Vegas criminal who threw himself onto a courtroom bench and attacked a female judge earlier this week said he tried to kill her and blamed his actions on a “bad day” while refusing to appear in court to face new criminal charges. stretched out.
Debora Redden, 30, a three-time felon, was sentenced Wednesday by Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus on a conviction for attempted battery with great bodily injury.
Redden’s attorneys had asked Holthus to grant parole for the three-time felon, but he imposed a prison sentence because of his violent past and repeated arrests.
“I think it’s time for him to taste something else because I can’t with that history,” he said.
The 62-year-old judge was unable to read the prison sentence, as Redden rushed over and jumped onto the bench, knocking Holthus from his seat.
It took court and law enforcement officers several minutes to subdue Redden before he was finally pulled from the courtroom.

Redden blamed his anger on having a bad day and said he tried to kill Holthus, according to court documents seen by KLAS.
“The judge told me,” Redden told officers after he was taken into custody. “The judge is evil.”
He also apologized to the officer for his exaggeration.
“I’m sorry you guys had to see that,” Redden said before he reportedly asked another officer if what he did was wrong.

While he was still in court, Redden allegedly spat in the face of a corrections officer.
During the fight, Holthus’ head was slammed into a wall, and he later told police that Redden was “big, loud, and angry.”
He received medical treatment at the justice center and was later taken to hospital by family members due to continued pain, but was later released.
“He remains sore and stiff but thankful it’s not worse,” Clark County Chief Judge Jerry Wiese said Thursday.
Holthus’ marshal, Shane Brandon, suffered a cut to his face that required 25 stitches.
Law clerk Michael Lasso suffered some minor hand abrasions in the fight.
Wiese said Redden’s attack was a rare occurrence inside a courthouse that is supposed to be a safe place.
“This is a very unique situation, which as far as I know has never happened before, with a Superman on the bench,” he said.
Redden’s sentence was part of a case from an April 2023 incident in which he threatened “to crush the kneecaps” of another man, causing great bodily harm.

He was ordered to undergo competency testing in May when he was committed to a state behavioral facility before being ruled competent to stand trial in October.
Redden was charged with six new felonies including coercion by force or threat of force, extortion, intimidating a public official/other person by use of force, disregarding the safety of person/property, and battery by an inmate, probationer or parolee.
He also faces seven counts of battery on a protected person, all gross misdemeanors, according to court records.

Redden failed to appear in his initial court appearance on the new charges Thursday and is scheduled to be in court Jan. 9 before Judge Diana Sullivan.
His time in front of Holthus is not over as the two are scheduled to meet again on January 8 for a preliminary sentencing hearing, according to the outlet.
In 2021, Redden served prison time on domestic battery charges after being sentenced to 12 to 30 months, but the board granted him parole in 2022.
