Video shows chaotic moments after boy, 10, gets bit by shark on Bahamas vacation

Bone-chilling new footage shows the chaotic moments after a shark bit a 10-year-old boy in a Bahamas shark tank — with the predator surrounding its victim as his blood filled the pool.

The boy was brought into the tank by staff as part of Atlantis Bahamas Resort’s “Walk With Sharks” tour, which promises 30 minutes of fun for kids 10 and older with a nurse and reef shark for $110.

What promised to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience quickly turned violent when one of the sharks slipped between the boy’s legs, forcing him to straddle the giant fish, which then turned and sank its teeth into his right calf, video obtained by the show TMZ.

The terrified 10-year-old shot straight to the surface of the tank and was helped to safety from land by his father, who bravely jumped into the shark-infested pool to push his son to safety.

The sharks continued past the bleeding youngster while desperately kicking his injured leg to the surface.

“There’s a little kid inside!” a guest said in disbelief.

Another video shot by onlookers at the Atlantis Bahamas Resort captures the frenzy that ensued after they realized how dire the situation was.

“Did that just bite him?” the boy’s mother was heard asking before shouting: “Oh my god, that’s my son! Call 911!”

The boy cried out in pain as he broke the surface of the water, as his mother and the other children screamed in terror.

Several times, the shark’s fin swept across the surface, through the pool of blood the boy had left behind.

The boy’s parents pulled him from the water and took him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Moments before the terrifying incident, the boy had been walking near a shark tank with a chaperone as part of an on-site shark encounter experience offered by the resort, witnesses told TMZ.

The 10-year-old was just one of many in the tank wearing a large white helmet, heavy oxygen tank and fins to watch the sharks circle the tank, but the predator seemed to zero in on the smallest of seconds before attacking.

The full extent of his injuries, and why the shark targeted the boy, is unclear.

Atlantis Bahamas Resort and tour operator, Blue Adventures, immediately closed the tank after the attack.

The hotel complex, where room rates start around $250 per night, offers an hour-long “Walk With Sharks” experience for children 10 and older, described as “easy and fun.”

The shark tank expedition page is no longer available on the resort’s website, but the tour page linked to Blue Adventures lists the adventure as available to guests 10 and older.

The event usually lasts 30 minutes and costs $110.

In a statement, Blue Adventures, the organizer of the event, said: “We have initiated a thorough internal investigation and are cooperating fully with the authorities.”

“Incidents like these involving interactions with marine life, even with the shark species included in this experience, are rare and unacceptable.”

The horrific accident came as the US embassy in the Bahamas issued a strict travel advisory against travel to the island nation after the killings of 18 tourists, some of them in broad daylight.
